Six inches of snow predicted here with -10 temperatures. Just a normal winter for Scotland!!

Jeez!! How do you stand it???

Same goes for any of you who live in areas with those kinds of winters. While I prefer winter weather to the kind of soul sucking suffocating humidity we get here in Nashville in the summer (and it just gets worse the further south you get) still I can't abide the kind of bone chilling cold with temperatures in the teens or lower that we've had the last couple of days. I'm the first to say that cooler temperatures energize me...but not this cold! All I want to do is stay tucked up in bed wrapped in my down comforter! I can't, I have to work. But still.....

Hats off to those of you who live in severe cold! :like:

Well boys and girls. I work outside. Every day. You gotta take the bad with the good. Sure, there are some miserable days out here. Then, there are those days when I get to enjoy the glory of the outdoors while the rest of you are stuck in some office cubicle, or inside a building of some sort or another.
It's all about mind over matter..............If you don't mind, it don't matter!

Temps here are so variable you have to dress for both of our seasons in the morning ! 20`s and 30`s in the morning Mid to high 50`s by noon ! I don`t mind the cold so much but hate the wind and rain when we have it ! Just give me sunshine !

FBG, there are days I wish I could just hunker down inside and ignore the wind and cold. But, I can't. There are hens to take care of, gardens to harvest even in wintertime, and the bird feeders and watering stations to fill for the wild birds. I find that being inside and looking out is much more fearsome than actually bundling up and getting out there and doing the necessary.
I admire people like you that are out there all day, instead of the couple of hours I'm out in it. Sure hope you stay as warm as possible, and keep your mind over the matter!

I agree. There are things that still need done outside, and so you just have to dress appropriately. Once I get out there I usually find it's not as bad as I thought it would be. But last week when we had -42°C (-43°F) it sure was nice to come back inside!

Because Ron works in construction doing carpentry and renovations, he works outside in all temperatures. When it gets really cold, he hates it! He has to work anyway of course, so he dresses in layers, sometimes 3 or 4, to combat the cold, including a beanie because he keeps his head almost shaved and lots of heat escapes that way.

Aaaaaaand we're now under a Winter Weather Advisory!! :(

Current info is there will be rain tonight as well as temps well below freezing, bottoming out to wind chills of 10 degrees tomorrow morning. Maybe snow. Definitely ice. It’ll all freeze. Roads extremely hazardous. Single digit wind chills, pus temps won’t get above freezing again most of the week with a temp around 9 degrees predicted for Thurs am. This is very unusual for Nashville.

If the ice is as bad as predicted, I may not make it in to work at all tomorrow. My subdivision roads get bad in weather like this with the hills etc. I can watch out my window as cars slide down the hill in front of my street. The street leading out of the subdivision is even worse, that one going uphill to get out, and cars trying to navigate it and sliding backwards, in some cases into each other! but it's the only road out of the subdivision. The main road after that is even worse and cars routinely go off the side of the road everywhere! Folks send in photos to our Neighborhood Website of all the wrecks, slides, ditched cars etc. Not gonna chance it if it gets bad!!!

Odif... I feel for you. we had a storm of monumental proportions last week. it wasn't a blizzard but it had blowing and drifting along with 12" + of snow. We do snow plowing and a one contract has shoveling the walks in it too. me oh my oh! it was a task of monumental proportions, too. I have 80 sidwalks, stoops and a small portion of the driveway to shovel before the men get in the driveways to plow. it was heavy wet slushy snow. we shoveled on Saturday in the midst of the storm and on Sunday when we went back it didn't look like we had done anything We weren't able to finish it on Sunday. it got too cold.. then the next day was bitter cold. wind chills -15 to -20°f . I finally finished it up on Tuesday. only to have more snow again on Sat and Sunday. stay safe and warm.

I just noticed we are under a 'snowfall warning', which is hard to believe looking outside right now .. the sun is shining and the sky is clear. Reading a little further into the warning, it says we will get about 15cm of snow. I don't remember ever having a snowfall warning issued for that small amount of snow in years past. I think we are getting soft haha

Netty, I thought the same thing not long ago. extreme and bitter and coldest etc ... adjectives... huh? its WINTER FOLKS! someone mentioned the weather while I was waiting on lunch-meat at the deli the other day and I said... " well, it is winter. I am expecting it to snow, be cold and shovel snow".. What is up with the new and improved weather forecasters? sissies much? then you go the the extreme of the drama forecasters who put themselves and the crew in harms way for a hurricane story/update at the height of the storm. SMH!
