The 3 sisters gardening method is planting such that, pole beans use the corn as support and squash cover the ground. Have you ever tried this gardening method or some variation thereof? did it work as you expected?
I want to try it on a small scale. a 2x8' bed with corn + bean + squash (pumpkin sounds good too) it seems like a very efficient use of space.
Corn takes a while. Think like someone concerned with winter survival and plant a winter squash..like a pumpkin?
Tossing Halloween pumpkins on a compost heap supplies plenty. Personally I do not like pumpkin, not even the pie.
