Many apologies. Only just come upon this. NO ADVERTS. I understand that in the US. Television programs are constantly interrupted by ads. How on earth can you enjoy the program? Here in the UK. We have freeview programs, and they seem to be run on a like basis. UGGGH!
Mike, watching a few minutes of a program, and then having it interrupted by many more minutes of ads does destroy much enjoyment of the program. That is why we watch so much PBS. The only "ads" are to mention the sponsors of the program. However, the ads on the usual stations do give us bathroom breaks and a chance to go raid the refrigerator!
I agree, with physical (paper) books. I listen to a lot of audiobooks. The app is so cluttered it's hard for me to figure out now. Even searching my own audible library accesses their website. Kindle isn't as bad as long as I avoid the "home" screen. @MIKE ALLEN, you describe a reason I don't watch network TV. I do watch Britbox. It's much better.
We re having a dip in reading but we are watching the telly. We have three public channels and a raft of commercial and foreign ones. The BBC channels that we watch are without ads. There are some ITV shows also. Some of the channels we record for watching later and then we just zip through the commercials. Otherwise, the sound goes off and we leave the room and do this or that.
Ouch!! Books with commercial pages?? Are the advertising Gurus on New York's Madison Avenue reading this? Years from now historians will want to preserve such books as they yield information about products long gone. Like old newspapers today are valued for their commercial content as well as their old stories. Maybe they have started the New Year's Eve parties early. Jerry
