I really must do something about that poor old yew. The deer make a meal of it every winter. And I know you can't hear them, but that PJM rhodie is buzzing with bees. They are quite loud. And if you watch the rhodie closely, the whole thing is twitching with their activity. BTW, can you tell I am retired now?
Heh heh heh...the life of a Pensionada. I have to tell you Cayu--those piccies are lovely. You seem to have a very nice spread there. Oh, but those pesky deer. Well, perhaps they will remain cancer-free. I am so sad to see the state of the yew though. They can be such a lovely plant and used in several ways with pruning. Your Hakonechloa is about at the same stage as mine. All in all, you have some very nice colour going on there. The Rhodi is breathtaking. My dwarf one is not yet in bloom...so i am enjoying yours.
Cayuga, your photos of your spread are breathtaking! You have a green thumb all the way up to your elbow. About that yew--deer hate strong smells and rosemary is a good deer repellent. Two or three rosemarys planted near your yew should help. There is a less decorative but equally effective deer repellent--garlic. Hang several heads of garlic on the yew--old pantyhose feet or mesh bags hold the garlic but let the smell be known.
MG, I will try that. What is surprising about that yew is that in a month's time you would have no idea it had been so munched upon. It recovers every year.
@Cayuga Morning ...That black snake in the first 3 pics...what kind is it ??? I'll drink to that cup of coffee......love seeing your gardens...
Nice Cayuga.... looks peaceful. I can literally hear the bees. oh no wait! I do hear bees, the are just moving into my garage in their newly found home. oops." about those supers dear in the garage? they are not empty anymore." that cloud of bees? they are much quieter this afternoon. I will have to rearrange the components of a hive and make them a real hive with a bottom board and top.
My goodness @carolyn! Never a dull moment! Chuckle @waretrop. Yes, that soaker hose does look snake like, huh?
