As I posted earlier, we had storm damage on June 20. After an arduous search, we found the best contractor in the area--hard working crew, understood what we needed done, and didn't charge an arm and a leg. At this point, when the guys were on the job for two weeks, my husband has a new workshop, the barn is repaired, and the house eaves and soffits are repaired. All this has been painted (except the barn which is metal and we didn't want it painted). They are coming back for clean-up and re-installing windows in the workshop. The supplier gave them faulty windows and the contractor is ANGRY! We decided to replace the outside lights on the front of the house, and my husband is taking care of that this morning. We painted doors and they look so much better. It has taken a while, but we slowly but surely are getting the old place shaped up!
So glad that everything is coming together for you Jane. Once it's all done and dusted you'll be so glad you had it done before winter sets in.
Excellent MG, that is great news!! I agree with Eileen, you will be so happy it is all complete before winter! Any pics?
Bless you Eileen and Cayuga, winter here doesn't "set in." Most construction is done in the fall and winter months (workmen are less likely to faint from the heat!). We were lucky to have cooler than normal weather while the crew was here. I'll post before/after pictures when we get the photos sorted out. Thank you both for your kind words .
The reconstruction is coming to an end! The electricians have been here yesterday and today, getting power back to the barn and the workshop. The utility company is coming out this afternoon or tomorrow to put the meter back in, and then we will have lights, power for the hens' fans and a huge sigh of relief from us. We were so fortunate to have a really superb construction crew for the repairs, and a trusted electrician for re-wiring everything. The crew fished the pond, and our electrician will do almost anything legal for a loaf of French bread! Bribery works!
So pleased that everything has worked out so well for you Jane. Your ladies will be pleased to have their fans back. Bribery worked here too when we had our roof replaced. Lots of hot tea and coffee with homemade biscuits and cakes!!
Ah, Eileen, our ladies never did without their fans. My dear husband took our generator out to the barn lot, filled it with gas, and fired it up to hook into the coop fans. They had circulating air despite the lack of electricity. Our hens, and our cats, are NOT SPOILED! Isn't it wonderful what a little kindness and consideration can do for workmen. They only hear complaints, so when someone is nice, they work twice as hard and twice as well. We certainly have no complaints about either the contractor workers (a bunch of very nice men) nor the electrician crew (nice men, also).
We had half of our house blown down after the storm. We found the most efficient electrician and they did all the wiring again. I did my own work to raise the destroyed wall. Now we are waiting for help from the authorities, but I'm not sure there will be any. There are plenty of countries in the world that have been flooded this July. We were lucky, we got out of trouble quickly, but it seems we will have more floods in our state.
