I just checked a tomato cutting to see if it had rooted and discovered these earthworm eggs. Notice the mycorization on the roots. You can even see the earthworm.
Can`t see the worm but eggs look good ! I have bins of European nightcrawlers for bait ! I like to fish !
I've been trying to see how earthworm eggs looks like in natural environment but never did find one before. Once I spent nearly 3 hours fine combing my beds looking without really knowing how they look like, yes I was desperate. Thanks for posting this photo Mart I think the earthworm is in the middle bottom of the photo.
Oh,, So its that little bit I see ! Mine are quite active ! And getting fat !I can walk in my yard after a rain and pick up a hundred or two !
Sad to say but there was hardly any earthworms when I first move in here. Then I decided to start a earthworm farm and released them into the growing beds. Now when I till the beds I can see a couple of worms every now and then but not by the hundreds Anyway I am quite happy that the number of worms are growing.
What type are you trying to get started ? Here we have European Night crawlers ! They are excellent for keeping the soil loose but not too good as composters ! For that Red Wigglers are best ! Where I have many night crawlers the soil under the grass feels like walking on carpet !
The normal wild earthworms. I am not starting anything. The earthworm laid it’s eggs on its own. I never wondered what kind of species they were. There are so many earthworms this year due to all the rain. They look the same as the ones in the compost. Anyways bacteria and mushrooms work hard at making compost as well as whatever other critters do their work.
