The First BLT's ! But hang on a mo-- I'm getting way ahead of myself. Let's go back to the lottie then. Not all that much to see on the tom vines, as we have harvest the first batch for eating and and putting-up. Ach, but there are more on the way. The Bride shows some of the new ones that we tried this year--'Big Mama'. They are for making the thick sauce for spaghetti, chilli etc. Normally the the `Romano` types are much smaller. They taste and smell oké, but the Ferline´s are what we prefer for salads, BLT´s and so forth. Then we dined at home on the breakfast bar. The messiness of this whole scene testifies to our haste for these first BLT´s of the season. We didn´t even bring home any lettuce from the garden...oh dear. It was a busy and hot day, but we had to harvest. here you can see some of the goods stalled out on our little sitting bench. Of course after the BLT´s, we still had to process the beans. These are runner beans. They taste differently from the French Climbers that we also grow on the wigwams. Those gave us seven sacks to freeze-in. This harvest time is such a pleasurable time except for the heat...that can be a real pain. You just have to keep drinking and drinking. But I´ll tell you--it is simply too hot today. It is 32ºC at the moment. We went early this morning and gave water in the greenhouse and harvested some Swiss Chard. We perspired like mad just sitting still in the shade. BAH!!! Well, we were home by 13.00 hours, cooling our heels on the balcony with tea ´n bikkies. Swiss chard processing this evening. Pfttt.
And that is if we are lucky ! looking at what is on his counter,, i am moving to where ever he is !! i can take the heat !
Beautiful harvest SJ. I like how you collect & display the veggies in those wooden ?trugs. I have now begun craving BLT's!! And I like your bench with the pretty cushions. What's the veggie on the far right?
Wow TONI--That sounds uncomfortable. We are not used to such temps here, so when we get a "wave" of these temps we all feel quite uncomfortable. Heh, heh, heh--There's a bedroom for you here MART. hahaha. Thanks so much CAYU-- Yes...trugs. We couldn't garden without them. We also gather them in "harvesting aprons" made by a lady on here. So we dump them out of the aprons and into these trugs and then slide therm into paper bags to bike off home. Those light green things over to the right, are courgettes--like squash or zucchini's you guys call them. We like these ones because they have a creamy quality to them. I am glad that you find the cushions pretty--those old things are going to outlive me, I reckon. We just sort of picked up thisses and that's here and there to sit on. We figured that if we bothered to get matching lovely ones that they would just soiled. These can be treated roughly without having to worry about the appearance. You are exactly correct MART about the courgettes. That's one point to you !
