They say that each LCD writing pad can potentially save up to 100,000 sheets of paper during it's working life.

They also say that it's very rebustly built, (so can easily withstand misuse by children or pets). Therefore, if properly taken care of, it should last for at least a decade and a half....

Doesn't even consume any power, (only takes a tiny amount of energy when you reset the screen by pressing the erase button, so you can write or draw on it again). So the small and cheap battery can easily last 2 to 3 years - Battery will probably expire due to running out of it's shelf life, instead of actual power consumed.

I am only interested, as they say it's environmentally friendly, (prevents the cutting of trees, by saving the use of paper sheets). Battery used is also lithium, so can be recycled later...

    :frustrated:

Well, I too haven't used one, yet. :snicker:

But I have ordered it online, so it should be delivered to me in a few days...

They are not very costly - But I am mainly interested in it's potential for saving the environment. By substituting our need for paper.

Our Earth is just a single planet we all share in the known universe. Don't really have any other place to go... That's why environmental causes are so dear to me.

I think they will be old in 5 years, antique in 10 and trashed by 15 years. The new processor chips out are pushing energy through circuits made of conduits 3 millionths of a meter wide with 16 processing cores or what we used to call a cpu I guess... Whats next is so small I do not have the imagination to understand. Just wild!

I was wondering how would a person, if suddenly brought into today's world - From just 50 years ago. Be able to function???

Heck forget about that. Let's just compare our own selves with young kids of today... Most of them now are completely clueless when you tell them to go use a telephone with a dial. They don't know what a typewriter is, (literally never saw one being used). Put them in front of an old style washing machine, then ask them to operate it - And at first they keep searching for the touchpad. Failing to find one, they then assume that it must be voice activated!!!

I think we humans are now well on are way, to start living in the lifestyle of The Jetsons cartoon!

I think the environment friendly label is just a marketing ploy. Can you transfer the pages to another device. E.g. usb stick or memory device. Grow hemp to make paper. Sounds cool though.

No, if you like something that you made on it, you take a picture of it from your smartphone.

It is just a replacement for sketching rough ideas and doodling, instead of wasting paper... Also a great aid for teaching pre-school children.

Will know more when I get to use it myself, (I've ordered it online, just to try, so should arrive in a few days).

It reminds me a bit of an 'Etch a Sketch' that I had as a child although we didn't have a smartphone to take pictures of its screen.

YES! I remember, I too had one in my early childhood! So I guess this is the exact substitute for that. In this day and age.

Yes I remember this very well. It's when Scotty gave the formula of making Transparent Aluminum to a local manufacturer - Star Trek 4, if I am not mistaken!

Got it yesterday! Works better than I had expected. Absolutely zero complaints!

I even made a pouch for it also, from the bubble wrap it came packed in!

Now all of my rough ideas have a place where I can share them, (without wasting any paper or ink)... It's also perfect for keeping in the car, for things like putting down your grocery lists. Or to immediately write down the license plate numbers of another misbehaving driver.

    As they say
    "Enough is enough."

My granddkids are part of a computer oriented family, their dad has an IT business.
Our eldest granddaughter at 22 has a fantastic job selling IT systems here, in Europe and America, (she doesn't work for her father). She keeps a hand-written journal, always has. The younger grandkids always send hand written thank-you letters to us for birthdays and Christmas presents.
The two youngest, 11 and 14 have always drawn on paper and like to paint. They sometimes make little books with a hand written story on one page and illustrations on the facing ones. They also make little stop-action videos with an i-Pad..

I send quite a few e-mails. My pet hate is "e-cards." If you can't make the effort to send a hand-written card, don't bother.

Someone's re-invented the wheel here and it's just about as useful.

OK, truth time now... :D This thing doesn't have any microprocessors in it, nor any electronics, aside from one reset button.

It works by physical pressure. As the nylon tipped pen presses against the screen, the polarity of the LCD behind changes. Thus that area becoming visible. But one tiny pulse of current, (the reset button) - Re-polarizes the entire LCD screen.

Now the real reasons why I needed this.

    1. This cannot be hacked, as it has no electronics, thus no connection to the internet, (simply impossible). While our smartphones can be hacked...

    2. After I do my part of designing something, (I use an "air gap computer" for that) - I often take notes on paper, (as I do this without any internet connection for security). However later, I have to burn al the pieces of paper, for the sake of maintaining my trade secrets.

    3. Writing on paper writing pads, isn't always secure. As even if you later destroy the sheet of paper you wrote on. The sheet of paper underneath will still hold the impression of what you wrote above... Just see this video below - Now try doing this exact same thing to a sheet of paper which is blank. But had another sheet on top. Over which something was once written. 9 times out of 10, you will be able to decipher whatever was written on that writing pad.

    4. The viewing angles on this LCD writing pad are very sharp. Meaning that you need to be viewing it reasonably straight at right angles - So anyone trying to look over your shoulder, (or take a picture of what you are writing with the help of a powerful telephoto lens - Also isn't going to get much success. And neither will s drone flying above.

So these were my major concerns, because of which I bought this LCD writing pad. As now with the press of just one button, EVERYTHING is instantly reset - Impossible to bring back again.

And best of all, no paper or ink wasted anymore.

Yes I am EXTREMELY paranoid - But I have very good reasons to be, (besides, I now enjoy the lifestyle I live)... As I know for s fact that these habits of mine are causing major headaches to certain people. So watching them all, as they circle the drain in their plight, gives me another reason to laugh.

I had something like that as a kid, but there were no batteries. ;) Erasing it was easy, just lift the plastic sheet.
