Hi Everyone, I haven't posted in a really long time so hello to everyone, new and familiar. I am working on a crafting project that I (hope to!) plan to finish by the end of 2021. It is my first bottom-up sweater. Also, it is my first cardigan. The pattern is called the Antler Cardigan. The picture included is as far as I've gotten. Once finished this will be the fourth sweater I will have made successfully. Antler Cardigan Sleeves ( photo / image / picture from xantedeschia's Garden ) Is anyone else out there doing a long-term project for the upcoming year? I'd love to hear about them.
Aww, thank you! Knitting isn't so bad learning-wise. I'll admit, there is a learning curve but it is fun making things. It took me two and a half months to learn the skill from a class and online videos. To contrast that, it took me three years to learn crocheting. Not that crochet is hard either. I was coming from a knitting mind frame when I approached it.

I like the color yarn you are using. I knit, taught myself about 50 years ago, my grandmother taught me to crochet when I was about 10...I like knitting better now, as I get older it is easier on my finger joints. I also make quilts which is what I am about to get really busy with, I have plans to make 5 of them before next Christmas for our kids and grand kids. I have patterns chosen, just have not finalized size and colors. They all already have quilts that I made them years ago but these will be more representative of me ...as in my choice of fabric prints and design of the quilts...I asked them to tell me 5 colors they really like and got a wide and somewhat wild variety of colors.
toni that sounds really great. I would love to see photos of these quilts... In progress or finished. I have a question. I plan to make another wallhanging/table runner (it can be used either way). So I prewashed & dried the fabric. It's cotton. Now i can't get the winkles out of it. Anyone have any suggestions? I have tried soaking the fabric & ironing it with a hot iron. Wrinkles are less but still visible. Here's a photo:
Is it 100% cotton? Is it quilting fabric? Fabric made for clothing is different from quilting cotton and sometimes wrinkles will never iron out. Quilting fabric is not only 100% cotton, it is a closer weave fabric meaning it is thicker/sturdier fabric that wrinkles will iron out of with no problems.
It looks seriously wrinkled. I shall check with the Bride for you and get back to you on here or in a PM
toni, I think it might be quilting fabric. Actually I don't really know. I bought it for a quilt project. They are batiks from Indonesia. Sold in 6"X40" strips from fabric.com. Does that sound like quilting fabric? Thanks for you help. Sj, please thank your Bride for her help too.
Batiks are originally made to be clothing and are very thin and free flowing. You can find a product called Pellon at WalMart or fabric stores that can be ironed onto the back of the batik. That will give it the thickness and strength to hold up in a quilt. If that is too thick, ask if they have a thinner fabric stabilizer available, not having been in the quilting mood for many years I am finding some new items that were not around in my really active quilting days. Just remembered there is a fabric that is called Batik but is a Batik print on cotton fabric, not a batik fabric. Cut four 3 inch squares from it, sew them together into a block then pull on the squares to see if the fabric starts pulling apart or holds tight without the seam coming undone. You could also take some of the fabric to a fabric store with you and compare it to quilting fabric.
Thanks toni. I used Pellón Fusible Fleece on my other wallhangings. Is that what you are talking about? I'll experiment with it& see if it helps the wrinkles
