Beautiful! I have been looking to purchase a fern leaf peony for years, but it's not something I have seen in any of the greenhouses around here. I may have to break down and order one online
Stunning peony foto’s. They are just gorgeous. Could you take a lil foto from a distance to show how they fit in with their neighbours?
Here goes. Keep in mind the grass looks so bad because my husband just cut it to within an inch of its life, trying to reduce tick habitat. Obviously, the peony is at the far end of this last shot.
Oh, lookit that ! That looks like a nice location for that tree peony. I can imagine that in the evening or on rainy days that the starkly white flowers will stand out. Ach, pity about that tick problem. Well, with the short lawn cut, perhaps now you won’t have to mow so often. Tell me though, are the ticks typically on the grass...or do they climb up onto higher plants and walk out onto the leaves and wait for a warm-blooded host to come by so they can hitch a ride? I ask this because we went hiking in Malaysia once and came back with a few leeches on us, the leeches were on the leaves of the plants and got onto us without us even feeling them. It was fun removing those ghastly beasts upon return to the hotel. p.s. thank you so much for taking the trouble and braving the tick risk to take those foto’s.
Iilllgghhh. Leeches on leaves of plants! Iilllgghhh. Thanks Odif. We do have a lot of critters around us: bear, fox, coyotes, turkeys, etc. A neighbor in town has a resident opossum that hoovers up her ticks. I wish I could entice one to our yard.
crikey Cayuga Morning...critters sound like fun...not...that is some list of them...we have voles cute little lizards cute... pine martens, stone martens(beech martin).... The Pine Martins like going in the loft and eat your electric wires for some reason.. we had the spotlights in the shower room ceiling with wiring damaged by the little beasts. .. https://herthundbuss.com/en/industry-more/marten-attacks-and-how-to-ward-them-off/ .they come back in the early hours of the morning with hob nail boots on... we sealed up all gaps and have had peace now this last season.....the stone martins are shy and we do not see them....sure there is a lot that visits during the night as the evidence is left in little parcels around the garden.....need to buy some wildlife cameras...
stone marten photo then the link it is a pine marten..they are very similar though.....just went out and took a photo of our only Peony which is looking very healthy amongst the grass we have just left..was a wild garden area that became much to wild being in the wrong part of the garden mainly, so it all had to go.... but left the peony there as we thought moving it would cause it to die.... I had spent a great deal of time de weeding and digging over the fenced off area in preparation for sowing the grass seed....it never grew at all. Tested it recently on a metre. square patch and confirmed the grass seed had died. The grass there now has just self seeded and I shall get around to buying some more if needed..The amount of grass coming up in the stoney driveway could be used to patch this area though for Free.....
Cayuga Morning what a lovely setting there and see you have Dicentra's amongst the blue and white bells.... I have just purchased a tiny one and nursing it right now, do not expect any hearts this time but when it looks stronger I am going to put it... this time where I know it is safe from being dug up by mistake....
Cayu—Yeah, if you happen to notice the leeches on the plants, they remain with their behinds on the leaf and stand upright and weave back and forth in a most disconcerting fashion. Martins are such interesting creatures in spite of their murderous ways.
