What have you done today in the Garden?

It took me two hours of tidying, weeding and vacccing to get the garden to this state this morning, (no mowing), yet I tell myself this is a "low maintenance" garden.










I noticed outside the door in the side fence there was hedgehog poo for the second night running.

So either it could smell the food, or 'arry has a potential admirer.

Yesterday the bf and I went to his sister's house. He went to take care of her cat (she's out of town and he cat needs meds) and I took care of a flower bed. It was 91° (RealFeel 99°). I felt like I was dying the whole time

It may be stubborn but the before pic is very pretty !

 

I'll try to describe the after... I tied up the 2 canes of the climbing rose in a sort of heart shape over the top of the trellis. Removed the sad knock-out rose on the side. Removed a good chunk of the irises (I'm going to offer them up to friends and coworkers, they're irises originally transplanted from our house) and what was left, I replanted on the front and back sides of the trellis, leaving enough room for a 'Moonshine' yarrow on either end, and a circle of 'Cheyenne Spirit' coneflowers on the outside edge

 

today... mostly just watered 3x for the greenhouse and vegetable flats. this is the last week for those. I will be turning them into compost on Tuesday evening if they aren't gone to someones garden by then.

 

Started planting the pot marigolds around the path and under the roses, got about half way going to do the rest tomorrow because it's too hot.

 

Today up at the crack of dawn, both of us...worked for an hour in the garden, as a busy time, the heat we knew was on it's way. My new reading glasses arrived in France from the UK 12 th of May and tracking showed that..then no movement so had to give the 15 days waver then went to see the post mistress...she, very nice helpful lady gave me a phone number 3631 a freephone to report your tracking number for reasons of why it is not moving anywhere....where is where I had not a clue....Automated 3 options to press the correct one...oh dear..one again my French language abilities failed me...ok no problem so go and visit my neighbour Eric how is a real nice guy, he was the under Marie until he and the other staff rebelled against what was occuring there at that time..kind of a mini mutiny...He used his mobile phone to make the call and his usual reassuring smiley face was on...No not working he said...tried again and apologized and suggested go and see the postmaster lady.
Visited Antoine who lives opposite us now with wife and new baby called Romeo....wonderful name and lovely couple also. He felt the same as with an automated call you have no idea what occurs after you leave your details...
Cut short now as visited the post office again and requested help..was given an email address, I wrote to a few days ago now...Wow..today I got my new glasses delivered and was so excited at just that....how suddenly they got to me I have not much idea..lots of emails from the La poste telling me of the arrival..nothing elsee though.The business has had little problems with shipping to EU countries as his business is aimed at not just the UK but worldwide as they specialise in Thin Lenses which look so good and work the extra costs 100%. they are actually called thinlenses in the UK and have used them many times as my eyes are changing more frequently so need more changes of lenses. Just have been so helpful and trusting. That goes a long way to me.
Our garden is looking very good and we are coping with the weeds, just need(would like) a little less heat, which looking at the longer forcast it seems to be getting cooler in the next week. Some plants are suffering and flaking a tad, really taking more notice of the ones that cope with it.....

 

heat slows us a lot..dip pool would be my saviour but has a split in the liner...still...

Did a bit of pruning.
I prune this camelia every year about this time, just to keep it to this size. This reduces the number blooms we'll get each year but we don't mind, when they die off they make a lot of mess and you can't really see them anyway. We like it just for the glossy leaves.





It was originally one of three we planted well over 20 years ago in the centre of the garden, which I decided had by 2005 grown too large. So I binned two and cut this one down to a couple of feet dug it out and re-planted it where it is now. It was "saved" as the leaves are slightly varigated.






I then drastically reduced the size of the bed, built the brick circle, re-turfed the area around it and it's where our sambucus lives in it's big tub.





I also gave this acer a bit of a prune. I'll have to do it several times during the year as it keeps producing new leaves and I don't want it to grow any larger than this.

 

Planted some more pot marigolds and Snapdragons and watering.

 

Convinced the amount of plants you have....your a nursery @Logan...

 

Given up on my Petunia seeds now. Planted them weeks and weeks ago..zilch have showed there heads
Saved the special seed compost I purchased and will use it again...Have other seeds that I could plant but to be honest it is too too hot....Spent time sorting out paperwork and trying not to send an email to our so not nice not trusting British Estate Agents..it would have have been in the wrong mood, saying how really I feel about them. I do know when to draw a line and leave it....
New all singing all dancing especial farm grass cutter, used twice now not firing..about 1500 Euros so not happy of course with that either. Have to apparently go to our nearest Honda Dealership for a report.....the company is worldwide and seems a good company with excellent communications...so far....update on that at some stage. In the meantime purchased another brush cutter rather expensive, but it do a really great job on the new land grass.
Lots of heat here so watering a lot and not doing much else apart from looking out for any plants that wilt. Cherry picking tomorrow....going to make some jam from them and have a home made stone picker from a Fork....so you just bend the prongs outside two, curl towards you the middle two as per picture
....unless you have some other ideas, that would really interest me...
