Just a bit of "house keeping."

Pruned off all the "spikes" on the acer in the front garden, I prune it to lollypop shape each year but a few branches grow at a much faster rate than others, so it looks a bit odd by September.
It'll get a much harder prune once the leaves fall, to stop it getting too big. I do this every year.

Then a bit of "garden management."

Removed the rose in front of the brick gate pillar in the front garden. It was very woody, always suffered from blackspot and was a bit of a mess. It was forever dropping petals. One fewer job.
I spread the end azalea out as the rose branches were compacting it. Now you wouldn't know the rose was ever there.

Reduced the roses on the new patio to ten, as it was too crowded. So now two in their ceramic pots are on this small patio.

Moved the old bird bath from the corner of this patio.
Now it's on the bigger stepping stone between these two tree azaleas.

Had a good sweep up of the leaves in the front garden that have already fallen from the big acer and then swept the paths and patios in the back the garden. Missing my Flymo garden vac/blower I'd bought in April that went O/S last Sunday week. After a lot of hassle it's being picked up on Monday and I'm getting a refund. I won't have another. I'll get something else. I bought it to replace "a cheapo" I'd bought ten years ago which was still working, but I was always having to dismantle it every few weeks (a couple of dozen screws) to remove a build up of mud around the impeller. A right pain. With the Flymo you just need to undo a big knob on the top to open it to get to the impeller.

'arry our hedgehog has given us some concerns. He only ate a bit of his dinner on Sunday, ate nothing on Monday and Tuesday night and the camera didn't pick him up. So on Wednesday afternoon I checked on him. Not something I like doing. He was tucked up in his bed and tightly curled up by the time I lifted one end of the roof of his house. But I could see him breathing. So I guessed he was OK. At leasdt he hadn't wandered off and died somewhere. That would have distressed my wife (and me a bit).
He came about 10.00 pm last night and ate some of his dinner.
(I provide a 85g sachet of Sheba cat food every night plus some hedgehog pellets in a separate bowl).

Tonight he arrived at 8.00pm and ate some. Then went back towards his house, but later, something triggered the PIR on the side of the teahouse at the bottom of the garden, so that could have been him "on patrol." He may come back later for some more of his food. He has in the past.

upload_2021-9-2_21-6-14.jpeg Today I went to war on the weeds. With three massive new beds there are plenty of them. Where do they all come from? Thistles in particular just pop up overnight to gigantic proportions - and I swear they were not there yesterday. This put me in the right mood to do some ''Chelsea'' chopping (or something like that), and I cut back the nepeta and lots of other stuff that was past its best. Found myself having a really sensible conversation with a bee which was doing its best to sit on every nearly spent bloom I removed

Glad you are not so old as to have lost your vinegar! You have a mind I envy and I am younger than you so I do not want to hear any lip!

I Really thought it was Saturday today and had planned accordingly...I turned on the radio and thought where is Tony Heartburn...he does the 60's music show only on Saturdays I think....
Mixed sky this morning but that will be a good day to work in the Garden. I am thinking maybe put a tent up and take in the night sky as well!!!

I have recently signed up for receiving the times that I would see the International Space Station..so far they have been rather early in the mornings..5.00am ish
    https://spotthestation.nasa.gov/sightings/index.cfm
that web page is useful also...
So today's task we shall be working in the new adjoined land we purchased recently. The walnut trees are well loaded so will hold back from pruning them for a few more weeks.
...Still there is plenty of grass cutting to carry on with....Loving the new grass cutting machine, not that I have tried it out..Trouble here is if you act too keen, it becomes your job....
    Have a good day all...

We call him all kinds of names but I think he has got better with age....
I will pass on that I bumped into you to Chillie, as he cant get to come on this one.
How is your garden doing these days. Really happy with mine although the seeds were a weather failure, but that happens sometimes, just meant I had to spend more on Plants. Took this one with my new camera just because it had bees on it...

we found him yesterday in the Water Hole..that is a deep hole where the water meter is and garden taps as well...We thought he might be dead, and honestly the joy we had when we saw him breathing was just the best feeling....We put in a safe place just under some leaves in the open composter..within an hour he was gone...:smt026

Yes they were both jokes, neither were offensive.
The photo I posted came from the joke and amusing photo running thread on an Audio/Visual messageboard. It's on page 1887, a day ago that's why I remembered it. Nothing on it is really offensive, just funny.

In more than a couple of decades on messageboards, I've never suggested to anyone what the should or should not post. "Not my job."
I leave the moderation to "Them's what's in charge."
There's a "report" system for use for anyone who thinks something they read was in appropriate.

But I find it easier to just scroll down past it.

Everything posted if ignored, eventually bleeds off the page.
