    Several little jobs done.
Began clearing and working a portion of the third veggie quadrant, covering it with old mulch and newer crocosmia lucifer plants. Emptied the rainwater butt, cleaned plastic watering tubes and planting pots for the spring, did some hoeing and had tea with a visitor who dropped by.

hubby told me yesterday that I shouldn't be doing it in the rain but he was out today.:whistling:

I made this bird feeder a while back, out of bits I found in the garage. It's on a post of the pergola on the back of the house. It's where my wife can see it from her chair in the lounge.

The purpose was to have something that the birds and the squirrels could access but not the wood pigeons. It was frequently used by an assortment of smaller birds.
It worked well but was a pain to clean as I had to unscrew it from the post. It was due a clean here.

Yesterday, my wife was chucking out some old pans, as I'd bought her several new ones, two of these were the same (don't ask), they came with a stainless steel basket that clipped on to the side of the pan, so that you could fry chips in it. So one basket was superfluous and she was chucking it out.

I decided with a bit of "fettling" it would make a better bird feeder. So I made this.

The clip at the back of the basket slides into the rebate I put in the bit of wood behind it. But the front was "floppy" as in the pan there are wire feet it sits on. Not to be defeated I changed the bit of bamboo cane at the front that keeps the pigeons out for a bit of an old hardwood picture frame I'd hung on to. I needed to find something to support the front lip of the basket and found a bracket amongst all the stuff I hang on to in the garage "just in case."
Now to remove the basket I just need to undo the wingnut on the front a bit and the basket will lift out.

"Rocky" and "Rosie" our pair of robins have taken to it straight away. But "Sid" and "Sybil" our pair of squirrels were rather suspicious at first, perhaps they thought that if they went in it they'd become part of a, "fry up."

The Little Bowl in front contains sliced chillies in vinegar and sesame oil.

A good gathering of produce, Odif.
Do I see flames coming out of that chili mix?

Odif, your green thumb (all the way up to your shoulder!) amazes me. You must be proud, and rightly so, of your gardens.

Today was the last of the Food Bank pick- ups and deliveries for this season. There was hard wind and a driving rain storm. What a way to end the season.

Afterwards we arrived home cold and wet. Nothing for it but to have some hot cocoa...along with the last of the apple crumble. I always look for compensations when adversity strikes.

Did a lot of weeding, catching up on it because the ground was too hard in the summer.

We planted garlic today and checked the bell peppers and tomatoes. Both are doing well, and we are leaving the bells to ripen to red. It's very hard to give away bells--everyone wants jalapenos. I'm trying to educate palates, but it's an uphill battle :smt021.
