A few days ago I was lamenting the cold damage to my strawbs. I was surprised that the faces of the blooms (which become the strawberry fruit) had been destroyed by the coldness and wind while still in the buds. Surprised and sad. The flowers shown below are only two of what turned out to be tens of them. I was encouraged by Odif and so I did the only thing that I could do—wait. Yesterday I was greeted by oodles of fresh new buds, whose faces were mostly not damaged. The plants are making a comeback and I am hoping to have a strawbs this season after all.
That is good news. I did not know this about strawberries, although it does stand to reason. We live in apple country & the farmers are always lamenting freak frosts that upset the fruit set. Glad you're strawberries are putting out new flowers.
Thanks Loggie. 4G— My fingers are crossed. You are sweet to say that. I will post a piccy when and if I get some strawbs. Mmmmm, I drool a little just thinking about it.
Wonderful news indeed! I don't think ours have started blooming yet, but I noticed some wild strawberry blooms by the road side the other day. They can hold back a bit longer with the weather that's coming in now.
