Now, I plant them in the spring. I used to plant then in the fall every year like clockwork. The type I used was ‘Aquadulce Claudia”. What we discovered was that spring-planted broad-beans catch up to fall-planted broadies and yield their beans at exactly the same time. We did the experiment and found that our suspicions were bourn out. So now, we just raise the plants indoors, harden them off from when they have two sets of leaves and plant them out when they are sufficiently developed, in terms of height, stem strength and root ball.
