My Spider Has A Family

I concentrate on outdoor garden plants, but I also have a few indoors. My favourite is producing young and I want to eventually have a couple more for different places in the house. Time for action.

Today is the day to take action with the Chlorophytum. We got his thing a while ago now and it has produced offspring. We placed one in a wter-filled glass bottle whilst still attached to the mother plant. We left it a few weeks, waiting for it to produce roots. The roots were formed and now the next stage is to plant the “ baby “ into a small, soil-filled container to establish. Once the young plant shows signs of having “taken”, the umbilicus will be severed and it will be ready to begin its life on its own. Here it is below in its soil pot.


The other situation is a baby plant, which has produced its own babies. I clipped it free from the mother and placed it in water.


Now is the proud mum and children.


I do not know for sure which Chlorophytum it is but the leaves are wider and shorter than the other ones that I have had in the past.

 

Green thumb outdoors, and indoors, too! Those look like very happy houseplants. You may want to start looking for adoptive parents since you'll likely have more--many more!

 

You are too right, Jane. Next spring I am going to tear that large plant apart and make yet more new plants. Perhaps I ought to begin a mail order business. I am just doing this business with the babies to stay handy with the process. I enjoy watching the little plants develop and leave the nest.

 

Nice job with the babies! We had one of those, but like you mentioned, with longer, more narrow leaves. We gave several babies away, and all of a sudden the mother plant didn't like me any more and died. I might have overwatered it, but unlike you I'm hopless with house plants.

About overwatering— that is the most common reason for failure with this plant.

 

Sjeord they look very happy and healthy, may you get more and put them around the house.

 

Cheers Loggie. I may well spread them around in the house as they do not become large. However, I plan on giving some away. These are great plants.

 

What i like about them is that they don't need much looking after.

I sometimes add them to an outside planter; the variegated foliage provides a nice contrast.
