We were on a cruise years ago, and stopped in Venezuela. A couple of young men had a sloth, which for a quarter, I could hold, and for fifty cents I could own. My husband put his foot down firmly about buying a sloth. He thought getting Cuban cigars back into the USA would be possible, but a sloth, probably not. So I ended up just holding a sloth. They prefer being upside down, and really are quite "slothful."
Darn,, you could have shoved him in a suitcase and been the only person in central Texas with a sloth for a pet !
Mart, we lived in upstate New York at the time, and I was the only one with a tan in February. Does that count? Lillium, yes we did get Cuban cigars, well wrapped in cellophane, and stashed with our dirty laundry. Amazingly, no one wants to dig through laundry for contraband. I can tell you this because the statute of limitations has run out.
We were exploring Texas, and came across a big cat rescue. It seems some Texans think it's good to have tigers and lions in cages. These big cats are rescued and await a zoo home. We were able to feed a young tiger a bottle of milk. The tiger's fur was rough, not like a domestic cat's. We had the tiger on our laps and all three of us were happy. However, have you ever told a 150 lb. tiger fully equipped with fangs and claws, "That's all, baby" when the bottle is empty?
Oh Jane you're making me really green with envy. I'd love to have the chance to feed a tiger cub. I have, however, fed a Ring Tailed Lemur but it's hardly the same is it? What a wonderful photograph - thanks for sharing your experience with us.
