Tetters. …..fuchsia pic … those are the best I have seen in a long time. I especially like the double petals on the right. Need a close up if you can for them… oh plz… so gorgeous …… ‘do you know the names ?
When I had my little nursery here I had a fuchsia corner with shade netting draped over a big wooden frame. I collected about 200 named varieties. These days I decide that I won't bother to even think about names, as there are thousands of varieties, many looking identical to others thus creating a bit of a headache. The ones I grow now are all hardy plants that have stood the test of time. I have taken a few pics which I will post for you after I've resized them.
Tetters… you got that sooo right the names for just about any popular plant has so many new so called ‘hybrids’ and names and if a plant shows slight difference it is exactly as you said. That difference may or may not always show up in the new plant. Some are ‘Sports’…Well..you know how that goes..And they are very spendy to boot…Hundreds on the lists of popular plants are so over valued .I have not bought a new plant in ages. The plants that flourish in my garden stay and those that don’t are gone..who has time to babysit some of these new hybrids.. What really gets my goat is most different growers will name same plant with a new fancy name . It’s iris and hostas have thousands new types. Now white leaves are popular and most don’t last more than one season. hard to tell them apart that are all different in so many ways.. they are well hybridized. It’s been a pet peeve of mine too.. dahlias, amaryllis.. especially.. are so completely messed up by hybridizer that to many have minimal/tiny differences . Ya need a magnifier to find the difference in the new so called hybrid that establishes the new names, it’s getting rediculous…… what happened to hardy plant that last ? Ok end rant….
Tetters we cross posted . The enlarged pics just make my heart sing… THANK YOU for the beautiful pics.. you made my day..
Totally agree with all that!! The thing to do is take loads of cuttings from the plants you can be sure of and stick with them. There are too many plant snobs too - there's one in our village who calls her flowers ''flaars'' in her posh phone voice Edit: we must stop cross posting
I did take cutting of fave annuals put in greenhouse to over winter. Some plants are so easy a=even trees and shrubs. I don’t have the time or energy today .. just lucky many garden trees , shrubs annuals perennials have survived the heat waves in recent summers and horrible icy cold storms in winters. Lately the spring season seems to be a reall strange mix of odd winter weather. Wind storms, tornados and hurricanes have excelled in storm power surges and drought,… it’s not been happy weather for gardens in any zone…and I’m in a wild fire zone.. it’s becoming almost to a point wher homeowners insurance is impossible to get in some zones due to lack of resources government has not made available to firefighters.
Tetters got me a Medlar tree for my birthday You have to wait till the frost gets the fruits and they start to rot or "blett" They're too hard to do much with before that
