Too cold this morning for gardening. -3c.
    It's now +1c
The drop in temperature overnight was enough to make these leaves fall from the wisteria over the French windows.

I de-iced both bird baths and refilled with fresh water.
I've turned off the water supply to the basin in the room in the garage and to both outside taps. Don't need to take chances with the freeze.

Here it's a little above freezing. Tuesday I saved coffee grounds from the clinic (one of my jobs there is to make the coffee) so I spread them on a raised bed today. Then I scattered chicken bone ashes, just a dusting, and turned them under. If it stays warm, I'll plant winter onions there soon.

I also spread chicken bone ashes on a bed that had this year's potatoes. Can't do that for next year's potatoes - promotes potato scab. But it's fine for where the squash will grow next.

Jolly good idea. The ground is white with frost this morning and the birds are silent and all huddled up to try to keep warm. They're eating a lot, and the feeders are continually being filled. The water needs seeing to again as well. The fish are at the bottom of the pond and have seemingly hibernated - good idea!

Well, actually, those photos are from 2010. The last time we had real snow.
What we had overnight, was this. It would be best described as, "a smattering."
We rarely get snow, that's why I call where we live, "The Tropic of Trafford."

In other years, this much would normally clear by mid-afternoon. But with the such low temperatures we are presently experiencing, which are forecasted to last over a week, it won't and we might get some more snow yet.

    Beast from the east 2010
November 2010 began exceptionally mild but towards the end of the month bitterly cold air blew in on easterly and northeasterly winds from the north of Europe and Siberia — the infamous “Beast from the East”.

At the moment, it's not freezing, so everything has gone a bit slushy, so it'll probably freeze again overnight.
I put out extra bird/squirrel food today. We've now five blackbirds and three squirrels, well, that's as many as we've seen at the same time.

Today I pruned the last of the indoor Ficus trees. There are three. Two in the living room/main cabin area and one in my oldest daughters room. It used to be a ladder affair, but this time I tipped the pot and layed the trunks across a recliner to access their branches. They were about 14 - 15 ft tall, now they are a more manageable 12 feet. More sunlight can come inside now :)

    Thanks for that.

The first few photos were from 2010, when it was the last time we had a lot of snow, the last two are from today.
