I've always considered them good value for money. We have two wooden troughs containing six in pots, two each of three varieties. Four just coming into flower. There's two more in small beds at this end of our rose patio.
They are lovely! The Hebe aren't too happy with our climate, but some manage to grow here anyway. The small, unimpressive ones with tiny leaves and tiny flowers, you know? And even they might die during a no-snow, freezing winter. I still like them, though.
Hebes are great in my zone 8b… I have purple leaf and variegated leaf. They set new shrubs on there own from trimmings just stick them in soil. They grow fast and easy care. And they are easy peasy to propagate. If I had more time and butane wasn’t $5.88 a gallon I would have a greenhouse full. They are a very popular plant here. I used to sell them every year .
I wonder about our continental weather and the plant originating from New Zealand with the ocean influence. We cannot grow eucalyptus for that reason but we zone for it.
Dirt the Hebe’s can survive cold winters in protected areas. Like planted next to porches, or in pots to bring in covered porch, or under homes eves. Try the small variegated leaf with white flowers are more hardy. The purple flowers not as hardy. See pic in my garden in bloom last June. purple hebe started from cutting as the above pic.
