This caught my attention Droopy. Your blackbirds eat pears? What kind of blackbird are they?

Today is a little warmer at -10. The thing about clear skies and cold weather, is that now that sun is higher in the sky we can have some really bright and clear afternoons. I called a neighbour who has been feeling really bushed ( long winter, small cabin and no company). She met me for a walk. She enjoyed herself so much that she wanted to keep going...so we did. 8 km later (in snow boots) and almost home, we were commenting on how we forgot about the long return walk and how sore our legs were. hahaha. A hot bath and rest was in need when I returned home. Next time Hubby said he will just wait and hour, then come find us. That way we can walk as far as she likes. Very sweet because she asked if we could walk all of the way to the lake next time. That is downhill...the return would be brutal. A ride will be much appreciated. :)

Hey, @Netty, I want to see the finished masks. Knowing you, you'll find a way to make beautiful masks within budget.

It's evening but I didn't have time to say "Hi" this morning. Currently -3°C, wind, and snow. Drifts are piling up here and there but nothing our 4WDs can't handle if the snowplough is late. I'm not very good company today. I can't stop sulking because of this snow. Will find a nice film later, maybe a Hallmark one with their so-called snowstorms and everybody are snowed in. That might cheer me up. Enjoy your Saturday, whatever it may bring.

They are Turdus merula. The males are a delight to listen to in spring. We don't offer them pears until we see starlings arriving too early. Then we run quickly-quickly to the shop, buy a few soft pears, split them in half and put them outside for the birds. We spend some money on pears when the weather turns winter again like now, but the birds need them.

Good Sunday morning all. Currently -14°C and clear. Not a sound out there this morning, it's perfectly quiet. Well it WAS perfectly quiet until I took Sargent out for his walk ... hes rather feisty today and barked at the crows sitting up in the trees. He was so proud of himself when they flew away lol
Not sure about the days plans yet. Clocks have changed so I wont see the kids until an hour later than usual. I think I'm going to start getting prepared to sow some seeds - cabbage, onions and then in another week my tomatoes and peppers. Only 8 more days until spring!
Droopy - I was so happy to find some ready made Spiderman masks at the dollar store in the party section! 8 masks for $3, what a deal!
Have a great day all :)

Good morning! Suddenly on the plus-side temp-wise. 3°C and a little rain. Since frost is forecast again we'll get ice, more ice, and a little bit of ice on the roads and pavements. No signs of spring yet. Youngest is doing a practical exam this week. The whole family is on edge because of that. Good thing I have a horse to keep my mind off things. I need to go to the mall this afternoon. I've got a list of stuff I need to find there. Not looking forward to it. But anyways. Have a relaxed Monday. Ours will be manic Monday.

I'm happy for you. Well done!

Netty, for all you do for the skating club, you should be canonized!
Droopy, what is a practical exam? I'm sure Skuld will offer all the comfort you need.
It's chilly now, and not likely to warm up today. Tuesday and Wednesday are to be in the 70's, but then we are in for two or three days of temperatures 30's nighttime, 40's daytime. This roller coaster weather has me so confused.
And speaking of confused, Timi the cat is still on standard (cat) time. She doesn't understand why we are getting up so early, and putting her to bed so early.
I think I'll take my usual refuge in the kitchen. Anyone have any requests?

Good Monday morning all. Currently 0°C and sunny. We had a dusting of snow overnight and everything looked so pretty and fresh this morning.
We were at the rink for 2 hours already this morning and we go back at 5pm, so the in-between will consist of housework.
Have a great day all :)

We have sun today, off and on. The hard wind has come as predicted— Beaufort 8, so we are staying in. We will just order the groceries today and avoid going out. The authorities have closed off parts of the park outside so that people will not be injured by flying or falling limbs. It is always a hazard with high wind.

Well the branches may fall and the trees may become blown-over…but we will have electricity because all lines are safely underground.

That is quite the storm coming Sjoerd. Does that happen often on the ocean? Good to stay inside and let 'er blow. Stay safe.

There are big grumpy debates here in BC about keeping to daylight savings time. Some of our provinces already do. Apparently the powers that be are waiting for the states on our side of the world to also be willing to stay put on daylight savings, so that we are all "cohesive" for business etc. Any mention of this in your neck of the woods MG?

Mel— Thanks mate, I will. We live with wind here, it isn’t a question of will it be windy,;rather, how hard will it blow.

Today's day is a bit blustery, but nothing like Sjoerd. We woke to 0, so I think the grey skies could bring rain. If the winds calm I hope to go for a long walk today.

It is a homecare day as well. My neighbour is coming for a haircut tomorrow. She has vascular dementia, and is no longer comfortable going to a hairdresser. I wondered why her husband was cutting her hair with clippers. She mentioned she needs a hair cut the other day. I told her I've been cutting my own for the last four years since staying home full time - somtimes it turns out okay. Other times it is good I live in the boonies. ;) I used to cut my Mom's hair, and my Dad and brothers. She phoned yesterday to "book an appointment" hahahaha. So I will have the house nice and clean, a special chair for her, some coffee and cookies, and offer to also do her nails for her. And then hope for the best. Worse case scenario her husband can fix it with clippers. She is so grounded - she says it's just hair, it will grow back. :)

…and you can cut hair as well ! Anything you can’t do?
My Bride has been cutting my hair as well. It saves bags of money.
I hope you have a good visit with your pal. It sounds like you two are ready for fun. Have a good day there, miss.
