What have you done today in the Garden?

Pricked out 75 pot marigolds, here's 15 of them. Also sowed some more cosmos, 5 of the others didn't make it so I've done those just in case.

I up-potted herbs. They are now resting on the potting shelf in the barn, getting ready to move to the ceramic pots on either side of the path to the workshop and barn. With luck, we'll plant lettuces tomorrow!

 

I got done what I wanted to do today in about three hours.
I had to visit two garden centres to find what I wanted
A Prince George clematis and three lavender pot plants.




I finished painting the pagoda.




The next job is this. This is the "weather side." It's supposed to be sunny tomorrow, so it'll get a light sand down just for the paint to key in. I'll probably do the balustrade too.









I'm pleased with the steady recovery of the lawn.





Even the seeded areas are showing growth.




I put the lavenders in a pot so they should grow in the same way as the ones we had last year.




They cost £4.99 each, the same as the pot with three in I bought last year that died in "the big freeze."

Having read up on my new (year old) camera, I took some photos, but couldn't find the right HDMI lead, the one for "camera No2" won't fit.

The "right" lead is probably where I keep all the other leads and adapters etc., for every bit of kit I've ever had.




So I've ordered a replacement.


Fortunately, I had "camera No3"
I put this away in a different cupboard about fifteen years ago, having had the sense to take the batteries out.
It's a Lumix DMC LZ7 and is working OK.

 

Today was a potting up day for most of the tomatoes - there will be two more pot ups before they start to go outside, eventually ending up in a 1 gallon pot. I'm growing a plum tomato for the first time and it's already taller than the Beef Steak, so this should be interesting.

The dwarf Red Robin Cherry Tomatoes are not quite ready to move up.

I also potted up three Echinacea. Two six pacs each of cosmos, bachelor buttons and dwarf marigolds were also sown.

The snow has stopped and the sun is peaking through, so I'm off to pack the Artichokes down to the greenhouse.

Cleaning up the greenhouse after a squirrel made a huge mess inside. I’m gonna have to spray horticultural mint spray around the perimeter to keep those lil trouble makers out.

 

I see Loggie, it looks like a good choice to me.

Pac, it is looking pretty good now.

 

Today was rainy and "haily", so I stayed inside, yay! I wasn't in the mood for heavy outside work.

I up-potted all but the final three seedling pepper plants. Then all of them got a thorough spritzing with very dilute foliar feed, mostly to remove the few aphids that returned. I find if I keep up with that, the problem seems to remain minimal.

Inspecting, the earliest ones that were up-potted a few weeks back, are looking quite nice, bigger, greener leaves. (Not as nice as Mel's). That's what happens every year. My guess is that peppers don't like the seedling medium but do like the regular potting soil.

I got the stratifying seeds out of the fridge and sowed them. The Rudbeckias had already started sprouting. The Echinaceas didn't need stratifying, which @Melody Mc. proved, but I already did it, so there we are. Also some Goldenrod seeds, which look like tiny dust particles.

I'm feeling more hopeful about the 4 overwintering pepper plants that I thought I might have killed with aphid sprays. They are showing some signs if life. The other three are growing nicely. The Jalapeño has flower buds.

Not a bad day. Yesterday I bought a four-wheel garden wagon, which I think will be quite handy, without the back-straining tendency of wheel barrows and other two-wheel carts. I'm anxious to put it to work.

 

Lavender is one of our favorites. I can't walk past it without rubbing some in my hands and smelling it. Also, rosemary. I like sage and curry plant the same way, but lavender and rosemary are the best!

 

Congrats on the purchase! That will make life easier. Do you have a pic of it Daniel? I'm looking for one and I'm wondering about the size...or Hubby will perhaps make one for me when he is up to it from some old kid's wagon wheels. I need something to take flats and plants down to the greenhouse without the tilt and size limitations of a wheelbarrow.

 

It's this one, I think. Mine isn't out of the box yet.



They are pricey but I've wanted one for years. This one can dump everything out, too, if needed. Plus, I really need something ergonomic and rugged like this.

I have one a similar size, with tough fabric sides and bottom, that I used to use to take my dog Charlie on walks when he was too arthritic to actually walk. He rode in the wagon. Unfortunately, I can't take it out without being flooded by those memories. So I bought this one, which is more suitable anyway.

 

I'm anxious to learn how those do!

 

I was happy to see this seed packet I planted some last year expecting them to be container sized and they were giants hahaha About 20 - 24 inches tall. I didn't realize there were different varieties. Thanks Logan.

 

Thank you for that picture. I'm so sorry about the sad memories attached to the other wagon. I think this is a great purchase for you - it looks like it could go anywhere.

I'll keep you posted. I'm doing a couple things differently this year - like putting a cardboard ring around the soil like you did last year and pruning up the leaves a bit more. We grew them last year in three gallon pots, and we had a little bowl of larger cherry tomatoes ( I'd say Loonie size if that makes sense to you) every day for the summer. They were very sweet and the four plants were heavy with fruit, giving us enough until fall.
