At last I managed to complete servicing my container grown roses. 'Servicing' By this I mean, checking each one, lifting the container, 15Ltr. pot to a bench of sorts. Weeding, adding Top Rose fertilizer and mulching with farmyard manure and doing a bit of cosmetic treatment, cutting out unwanted material.

Slight problem when lifting the pots. Some plants have roots exiting the drainage holes, also as the pots are standing on garden soil, there is bindweed sprouting up everywhere. Honestly. Until about two years ago, my garden was free of such weeds. So to try and prevent this problem, I am going to use plastic pot saucers. More delving into the piggy bank. Next I am going to tackle the climbing roses. Thankfully, I managed to service my Lilies a few weeks ago.

Mike, you'll just have to keep on cutting the weeds off! As long as you can look at your roses, and keep caring for those you can smile. Getting old is a right sod for me as well, but never mind. Look at your roses and remember the good old days aye ;)

There’s lots of uses for saucers like bird feeders and they are great for succulents. I also keep several for spares useful for indoor plants.even for hanging baskets or a small kitchen herb garden. Spray some different colors. Cut them into different shapes staple string to the pieces and make a hinging piece , place near windows to keep birds from flying into them. Repurposed …or even used as a tray… I like the saucers with wheels attached they are so handy. Can’t have enough of those with plant collectors.

Mike, that is a fantastic place to get roses from. All of mine are doing so well. I wanted to get some more this spring too, but I need to get up to date with the weeding first. When or if I do get all the beds done, I know I shall treat myself to at least a couple more from there to serve as a reward for all the work. I usually buy them bare rooted, but it might have to be potted ones this time

As I have said before. Most of my roses are planted in 15Ltr. pots, due to the garden soil being contaminated by cat waste. So digging and bed preparation is out of the question. However it's no easy task weeding and feeding etc.

Today I put up another metal rose arch, only a cheapy from ebay. One side I have put, Rosa: Lavinia. This rose was difficult to get.. When my late wife Valerie was in hospital, a lady patient named Lavinia befriended her and shortly afterwards came to Val's funeral. The othe side I put Rosa. Bright Future.

Roses will look really nice on the arch … once the roses mature in a couple of years the arch will be hidden any way.
Sorry about your wife. The Lavinia Rose is a lovely way for a remembrance garden.

Hey Mike, we sympathise with you over the cat poo. The new neighbour here with all her barking Alsatians also brought loads and loads of farm cats, and let them go in the village. They get everywhere and there is stinky stuff all over everywhere. The poor things are all so skinny, and there are no voles or mice left - no rabbits or any other living cat food anywhere. The stink outside our front door was coming from a great big plant pot, and when Zigs investigated with a bucket and shovel, he removed a big heap of the ruddy stuff.
We have had to put flints on the top of the pot now to keep them off.
It's a real sod. We cannot leave a window or door open, as they are in and toileting all over the place. They would have been better left on the farm I think. If only she would feed them.

Hey! where have the months gone. Tetters last posted here, 17 May 2023. it's now 22/8/23.

Well I have been doing my best in the garden. Daughter Amanda visits daily and is keeping an eye on my health. Truly. I wonder if as Amanda says, and the medics continue to voice concerns. Nevertheless I usually manage an hour or so most days. My Lilies have been very disappointing this year, several failing to flower, some even giving up the race to attain much height. Now my Roses.
I have had a couple of failures, but never mind. Some have been, slow starters, despite having been bought as potted plants. One or two have romped home, but have produced just a single cane, rapidly thickening up, and terminating is a couple of branches. No problem. If you have any such roses. You can, 'Chip Bud' them. Anytime during the growing season. Simple make a slit in the stem/cane, never mind that it's a bit thicker and older looking, insert your bud as with 'Budding'. There are several methods of rose propagation. I will outline later. Apart from watering, feeding and weeding. I have let them do their own thing. A couple I have used for air layering. Some beautiful blooms and the second flush is just starting. Sadly the scent of many is yet to come.

Your roses sound lovely. Take care of yourself @MIKE ALLEN

I have not yet been able to transplant my roses to containers. I hope the feed store has some empty tubs when I get there. The farmers want $5 cash for them, which is good. I have no idea how many gallons or liters they are.

And I am still way behind on weeding flower beds. My veggie garden looks much better but needs more weeding too. I was outdoors pruning today and did some yesterday.

We had to have some ditchwork done a few weeks back, so now there are hoards of rocks to clean up and lots of mud too. oDS will get grass seed and reseed those areas. Missouri has an abundance of rocks in the Ozarks.
