3 weeks ago Berry got a aural hematoma in his right ear flap. Took him to the vets and she said that it was too small to do anything and it will go down by itself. A week later it was a bit bigger so back to the vet and she drained it, she said that it will probably come back and it will take 4 weeks to do that. It was ok until the next day and it started filling up again. It stopped for a few days until Monday and it's filled half of the ear flap down to the tip. Phoned the vet and he's got an appointment for tomorrow at 5pm. He's always rolled around on the carpet after his food or when we get ready to take them out for their walks, sometimes he shakes his head but not often. But when they get older it seems to happen, it happened to 2 of our others and they used to do the same thing. Should have thought about it more but we didn't think of it.
We used to drain the ear flap at our surgery and then stitch the sides together but leave the cut open. Worked really well for us as the ears rarely filled up again. I hope Berry recovers quickly and has no further problems.
Thank you Eileen yes we had that done with logan and it does work. With Moss we had it drained like Berry and it worked with Moss but not this time. Thank you Sjoerd i hope so. Thank you Pacnorwest, Berry loves treats.
An update on Berry The vet said that it was a waste of time draining it because there's a empty space and it will get filled again. She's prescribed anti inflammatory tablets, that's steroids. 2 twice a day and then 1 twice a day for 2 weeks. They could make him more thirsty and wee more. I asked her how big that it could get and she said it can fill the whole ear but i hope that it doesn't.
We do love our fur babies. My three elders have such a variety of conditions but they all are out and about in their own funny ways. Hope Berry is comfortable and enjoying life to the fullest.

Benny and the jets… Berry and the vets… Logan My vet would fill the opening up with a small piece of sterile sting … then every day pull the string out just a half inch or so , then rinse and clean the area, next day rinse and repeat…. Until it has closed shut and string is fully removed. Takes about a week. In my dogs case usually is a capsule that needs to be removed same time the area is evacuated with fluid or puss and if the whole capsule is not removed at the same time then the cavity keeps filling up It’s generally a cyst . A foreign material might get under the skin , then the area and the body anti immune system blocks it of forming a cyst. Very common but pesky to get rid of. Berry will have success with antiinflam treatment.
