Solar-powered fans for the greenhouse. Now there’s an idea.
What are the dimensions of your greenhouse?
    House leaning today. Bah!

Today we cleaned house, and when we were done, we applied polish to a small Indian salon table and my mum’s silverware chest. I like the smell, and it looks better.

Sjoerd Kudos to you…A clean house and furniture polish is always what makes a home look well cared for and that designer model look. Just like your well tended garden. I am the same way. Just as my garden has a look of everything neat and in its place so does my home. Maybe not a mansion or spendy trendy stuff but it’s comforting, peaceful and proud of all my inside and outside accomplishments. It’s hard work in the beginning and well worth the end result.

We have had one inch of rain since 4 o'clock this morning, so outdoor plans are put on hold. Should've picked lettuce yesterday!
I'll spend the day trying to get the house up to Pac's and Sjoerd's standard, but don't hold your breath. Husband is researching auto insurance to get the best coverage for the best rate. Personally, I'd rather clean house . . .
Hope you all have a good day, and the weather doesn't interfere with your plans!

We have had a lot of rain/hail the past few days. The culvert was blocked down the hill and the water has been too high to get a vehicle thru. The road is open today . I was seriously thinking about saddling up a horse and taking a different way out. Thankfully the rain and snow pack melt has not caused any serious damage to property down stream.

The next few days record breaking temps in the 90’s is expected. Not since 1932 and 1984 have we had temps in the 90’s in May. This is when I am really thankful for all the trees planted around the property. The trees really do keep the house cool no air conditioning needed. I guess that’s called ‘Green’ no fuel harming the atmosphere needed.
Trees cool the air by a process known as transpiration cooling . As trees release water into the atmosphere from their leaves via transpiration, the surrounding air is cooled as water goes from liquid to a vapor. This process helps cool the house with curtains closed and the use of a simple fan . This process can maintain a temp below 74 with outside temps 100. Along with the shade all the trees provide thruout the entire day. Trees are truly a blessing.
The power company actually gives us a credit on our power bill for not using electricity during peek temps.
The credit adds up to the cost of Mc Donald’s meal not a lot but it’s worth more than a pot of gold to me . Reward for planting trees over the years.

What you are saying about the trees I notice as well. I live right on the edge of a very leafy park and we are cooler than in the lottie !…and the old town centre which is very close by our harbour.

No rain last night nor this morning, so I slogged out and picked lettuce. I had planned to cultivate around the tomatoes and peppers, but the soil is so damp that I'd just be making clods. At least there were no standing puddles!
Pac, in the last 16 years we have planted about 30 trees. Some fruit, some native like the Mexican Buckeye and the Wafer Ash, and some just for the heck of it.
Hope you all have a good, puddle-free day!

    Thanks for the link.
I could recommend a tree for your sumptuous property— Tetradium danielli.
It offers shade, interesting flowers and even more interesting after-blooms.

Good Thursday afternoon all. Currently 23°C and sunny.
Had another busy day today, trying to get things done before Friday. Friday has a funny way of getting extra jobs thrown at me at work, so I try not to plan too much. I can already predict that they will want chairs brought out of storage because its going to be a beautiful weekend.
Already worked a full day, done my grocery shopping, made dinner and tomorrows lunches, soon we'll head to the rink. Its hot today so I look forward to sitting in a cool arena.
    Have a great night all
@Sjoerd My greenhouse is 12X10 ft. There are lots of solor powered options on Amazon :)

A wonderful warm day to be in the yard. 73F today with 10 days in the 80s. Things will surely begin to grow.

Yes, do like little solar powered options. Front porch lights are two different types, one automatic motion sensor and the other with a switch to turn on and off. I keep a little USB fan by my bed that runs off a little solar panel for chicken coops also.

@Pacnorwest and @Sjoerd I do love trees, but will probably have one or two removed for better views and too close to the driveway. Have lots of 75-100 foot trees to the north, east and west that are big tall trees both on our property and in neighboring properties. Finding sunlight for a part of the day is also a wonderful luxury here. Living with evergreens is a blessing but can also be a challenge.

I had to look that tree up. It’s a beautiful deciduous tree with a gracious canopy and 30-50’ tall . The description and pics looks like it would like it in my garden . It’s also called the bee bee tree. It’s a beautiful tree with #1- white flowers,
#2-set bright red fruits for birds, #3-attracts bees . It is what I would call a ‘Triple Threat’. Good pick… I like it…
I will check to see if I can find one to plant in the fall. Thank you

I suggested it because my bee mentor has them in his back yard. We have tea under them in his back yard in the summers. So cool and their habitus is attractive to my eye. There are a couple of different Tetradiums to consider, but the danielli is the one that I see every year. Such beauties.
