76 F 80F today and tomorrow then 62 & 66 after that....make up your mind mother nature.

 

Another lovely warm day. Couldn’t ask for nicer weather. (nature wouldn’t listen if you did ask). High of 90F but warms up slow and cools down fast.

 

Winds last night brought in clouds and cooler temps. Back to maritime weather conditions. Nice to have the house cool down.

 

We are soggy and foggy! We didn't have rain last night, but the humidity is at 90% so it feels like "air you can wear." I took my usual refuge in the kitchen and have eight loaves of French bread rising. It's not as bad as it sounds, since two are mini-loaves for our neighbor. She loves fresh bread but can't quite make it through a 16" loaf.
The lawn needs mowing (understatement!) and there is a lot of weeding to do in the vegetable gardens, but everything is just too darn wet. Tomorrow is supposed to be drier and sunnier, so perhaps we can get a bit caught up on outside chores.

Here are the loaves made yesterday, sitting on their cooling rack. Eight loaves? It seems that not only do I have no restraint when baking, I can't count either!

 

Netty as soon as read your post about solar fans I was on Amazon What a splendid idea. I hope for a new greenhouse in two years, and my hope is to have the solar arms that vent the greenhouse, as well as now the fans. Thanks Buddy.

 

@marlingardener - what a contrast you are having in weather to your drought last year. Your veggies must be loving it. The bread looks amazing.

We are slowly easing out of three weeks of very hot weather, 20 degrees above normal. Nothing to do but put the gardens in three weeks early. Everything is up and happy, but will need some extra care by the weekend as we go back to seasonal highs of 12 C and lows of 0C. But the frost risk only seems to be for a few days. The irrigation went in so that we can help the green space green up, and keep the gardens going. We tied the pump to a tree as the water is still very high.

The road repairs continue from the washouts and I'm excited to drive on the improvements next week when we go to the city. The trip should be much quicker and kinder.

The wildfires in BC and Alberta have had quite the time for the last two weeks. We've been lucky with no smoke up until today. My asthma chased me inside today just before lunch time. The dishes and I have finished our stare down and they won. The next task giving me stink-eye is my laundry. It is line dried but sitting in baskets for too long. Soon...maybe.

@Netty - I hear you on the sore hands department. My daughter has bought me some work gloves and they actually help me quite a bit. They are called "Bionic Relief Grip Gardening Gloves". I'm lost without them. They are a snug fit and take some pressure off of my joints. They work hard with me and last more than a season vs three pairs of work gloves a season ( I usually wear them for gardening, chainsaw, pruning, splitting wood, setting chokers, tractor, little buldozer, - really any outside labour that is hard on my hands) Here is the link. https://www.amazon.ca/Bionic-Womans...onic+gloves&qid=1684351066&sr=8-15&th=1&psc=1
Hubby also gave me a hot wax machine a few years ago. It's a little tedious to wait for it to warm up, but once it does it is wonderul for sore hands after a day of outside work. It sounds like your hands work and garden every day for long days. They may feel good for your hands.

Good Wednesday afternoon all. Currently 9°C and sunny.
It went down to only 1°C in my greenhouse last night!! Tonight I'll be running a small propane heater out there as the temperature will dip to -1°C., It is too late in the game to lose my seedlings!
I got something in my eye, I tried flushing it with water and also tried eye drops. Its not budging. I'm not even sure how I made it home from work today like this! I hope this is resolved soon.

Melody.. the wax machine is very handy. I have one from Walmart called a hand/foot spa . The wax is lavender scented. It melts the wax at a nice temper. Then dip the hands or feet for several coats to help relax muscles , rinse and repeat on feet.
Once the wax has cooled just lightly squeeze it off and place back in the hand spa.
the wild fires on the news is horrible. It’s sad that there isn’t more fire lines made across the wilderness areas every few miles to help prevent these fires from spreading.
I hope none is near you. It’s that time of year here again too. A new season ,’Fire Season’. We have had so much smoke that it’s dark all day and the sun is bright red. A strange phenomenon . To get a pic of the red sun I had deleted the red eye (initially for eyes in pics not show red)…from the camera.

Netty hope your eye is better soon. Sometimes I feel like something is in my eye. Which of course drives us absolutely nuts. Never could find it. As it turns out it was a small red spot near the eyelash area just large enough to feel like something is in the eye. It’s the flying pollen out in the air this time of year that gets embedded next to the eyelash. We have pollen tornados this time of year. Some recognize dust tornados to be brown and these pollen tornados ar bright yellow. I pull my top lid over the bottom lid a few times usually helps release the feeling of something scratching the way. Lots of washing out it takes time .

Marlindardener It is way to hot here to bake . Your bread looks so yummy. Try making home made butter for your home made breads. It’s the easiest thing. Just takes heavy cream place in auto mixer , whip until the cream separates then ring the water out until solid. Add a tad bit of salt . Wrap and refrigerate.

just puttering in the yard with very comfortable temps. Things are being to grow.

 

Still poking around wearing two pair of leather gloves pulling up the blackberry vines growing in the flower beds. Used the tractor bucket to push the blackberry’s back in a couple areas that creep out from the wooded area.
Watched the swifts build their nest in the birdhouse or checkin on their eggs.
Mowed the front pasture , the hawks came out to accompany me and follow the paths mowed that pop up their food . Then it was break time. Cheers…

 

I do the same tractor bucket trick for the wild raspberries Good idea with the double gloves. I use welding gloves but they are so bulky I usually give up. I'll try doubling up for the prickles next time. Thanks Pac!
