Yesterday was greenhouse day for us. We have been tying-in, suckering and giving our toms light haircuts for a while now, but yesterday it was time for more serious attention. First of all, the tom plants required a thorough paring-back of the leaf branches, to expose the blooms, small fruits and to improve air circulation. After the sécateur work, they needed to be tied-in and finally, watered. You can see on this next pic how much was cut away. It was a hot and sweaty job, but the Bride did a wonderful job in there. Me? Well, I kneeled at the door and took the cuttings and cut them up to be brought to the compost bins. Here you can see examples of the left and right sides of our little greenhouse. Yes it was hot and sticky, but this chore is out of the way for a while.
Cheers for the kind comment, Netty. This action is important to do isn’t it. We do this a few times during the season. The more fruits that have formed, the more importent it is to play the Barber of Seville. Sort of like removing water shoots from the fruit trees once the fruits form, right?
That looks wonderful Sjoerd. I appreciate the pictures and showing the volume you took off. This will be on my "to do's" in the next couple of days. I definitely need the air flow right now.

Of course Sjoerd the harvest will be outstanding as usual. I am jealous you have a beautiful veggie garden. With grocery prices going up and up it’s smart to grow as much as you can and you know it not be sprayed with toxic sprays or contaminated. Nothing like home grown veggies a whole other taste bud…
