With the hot weather, Timi is spending more time indoors. She particularly likes the cool flooring in the living room and being near a potted plant makes her feel like she is still outdoors and feral. Not really--she discovered being feral wasn't all that much fun.
Our dog seems grateful for our laminate floors too Jane. He keeps moving from spot to spot when it's too hot. Thankfully today it's raining and cooler, so he's so much happier.
I am looking right past your darling cat to focus on the the earthenware. I quite like the looks of that. What can you tell about that lovely pot?
Sjoerd, it is another of our Talavera pots. Made in Mexico, and purchased in San Antonio. There are various patterns, most of which depend on the whim of the decorator. I will not tell Timi you looked past her. She hates being ignored!
The story of Talavera. Emperor Maximillan, an Austrian archduke, wanted to improve the Mexican economy. He brought in Italian pottery decorators (willingly, we hope) to teach Mexicans the techniques needed to make decorative pottery. The Mexicans caught on quickly, and then took the bit in their teeth and ran with it, adding flourishes and combining designs. The result is Talavera which is popular on both sides of the border Maximillian ruled from 1864 when he was "appointed" emperor until 1867 when he was executed by the Mexican Republic. No good deed goes unpunished.
Well, I really like that style. I appreciate the background info as well. I like an interesting story. You have a number of interesting things in your home.
Timi looks cool and relaxed there, 2 of our dogs when they were puppies liked to lie on the hearth tiles. That's Berry he's getting a bit too big and the fire isn't on.
