What have you done today in the Garden?

Early this morning I went out and cut orange mint, chocolate mint, and oregano. They're all on my drying rack, in the garage. It gets very warm, in there, and dries quickly. I took down the thyme that I had dried earlier and de-stemed it into the thyme jar.
Then I went out and picked a few beans. There weren't many, I only planted a few plants since we usually only eat them raw. But my granddaughter said freeze them, when I asked. (Thank you Sjoerd for explaining how to do it). I'll just add to the bag as I pick them. The green ones are actually purple when you pick them.

 

Very pretty roses Willow. And lovely herbs and beans I add my peas and beans to the freezer a little at a time too. It's always fun to see how much is there when fall comes.

 

Thank you Melody. I was a little nervous when I got not one; but two from kids. But they seem to like it where I have them. I think they need to be brought in for the winter though. Can someone let me know?
I do the same thing when the raspberries start winding down.
I was a little surprised when the purple beans turned green. And then, I think in the corner of my brain somewhere I remembered hearing that they do that.
I used to make blackberry, well everything. There was never an under abundance of blackberries, in Washington state, when my kids were growing up. I'd make juice and can it, then mix it with lemonade and my kids loved it.

 

Willow, those beans look great. I love them so much, I often eat two or three bean sorts together. When processing the three sorts if there are some left over, then I throw them together and eat them for supper that night.

I am chuffed that you like the processing technique I use.

Do I understand it right that you are wondering what to do with roses in a container? If so, I would place them in a greenhouse or garage or some cool place indoors.

Thanks Sjoerd, That's what I do with my big rose. I drag it into the garage. I guess I could put all the mini ones (in their pots) under the big one, in the big pot. Every year I think about putting the big one in the ground somewhere, but I don't know where. Now with my granddaughter mowing the lawn that would just be another spot I go back and do. We have a burning bush in our front yard (can't stand the thing) and she goes around it. If the branches come out 4 feet she leaves the 4 feet under the branches unmowed. This is the first year she's doing both yards. The last two years she did the back, which is just a straight rectangle, and I did the front.

We had a heavy rain last night so I did a batch of raspberry jam. No watering because of the rain and I'm waiting for the next batch of beans to be ready so I can add to my bag in the freezer.

 

Got quite a bit done after the football, fortunately England didn't miss Lauren James. Weeded the front lawn, hands and knees job. again! The mowed it, did more wisteria pruning, then pruned off all the foliage on the roses that had black, didn't leave much without it. The came in and switched between cricket and golf on the TV.
Tomorrow, I'll give the roses all another spray of Sulphur rose and feed the lawns, if it doesn't rain.

 

Willow—I hope you find a place for that rose, because that moving in and out can get old.

Riley— Congrats of the voetbal outcome. It was a nail-biter. It was so much nicer to watch than men’s football.

 

There was a lot of comment in the media when one of the England players Lauren James got sent off for treading on a Nigerian player in the previous match and getting banned for one match. This attention probably helped to get the ban extended to two matches. I was glad for the rest of the team, England beat Colombo without needing extra time, a penalty shoot-out or her.

 

Got more beans to add to the bag, already in the freezer. Now the purple are coming in faster than the yellow. The raspberry jam is ready to get put away. It's behind in the bean picture. It was starting to rain, while I gathered the beans. And something took one of my poblano peppers off the plant! Had to be a squirrel or chipmunk

 

And the pepper, they didn't even take a taste!

You know, a lady up the path from me gave me some purple beans towards the end of july. I planted the plantlets and they are 2/3rds up the poles now. Sadly, she did not know the name of this type of purple bean. It will be close, but I am expecting a harvest before it gets too cold. I am encouraged to see your’s.

Too bad the beasts harvested your pepper a bit early.

 

Today I cultivated under my young bush bean plants. This is the third try, after deer got into my first batch, then the ducks ate at least 2/3 of the second batch. The third batch is in the super-max plant fortress so I hope they make it. They don't have irrigation lines yet, but I started them and figured out what I want to do. Until then, it's water by hand.

I harvested a lot of tomatoes. And a few peaches. This is about 1/3 of the tomatoes yesterday.



The red cherry tomatoes are mostly the German heirloom, Reisentraube, that I save my own seeds for. The yellow ones are Dwarf Eagle Smiley, which is also open pollinated so I can save seeds. The others are various open pollinated dwarf types.

The red cherry tomatoes were used in a roasted feta cheese / tomato pasta sauce. That also had garlic from the garden.

The larger ones went into a tomato pie.



That also uses onions, garlic, and Jalapeño and Anaheim peppers from the garden.



The original recipe called for different cheese and no hot peppers. I was going for something more Mexican "inspired", so I used a shredded Mexican cheese mixture for the cheese part, and substituted 1/4 cup, of cornmeal for 1/4 cup of the flour, in the crust. These Tomato Pies are why I grow so many heirloom type tomatoes every year. Oh my I love this, LOL.

I also dug sone onions and potatoes, and picked some peppers.

Other than that, I did some irrigation line repairs - clogged with iron minerals - and watered ahead of the 100 F weather today. Then mostly indoors.

 

Mine are Royal Burgundy(!?!?)...hmmm looked purple to me. I also have Cherokee Trail of Tears black beans for drying...which also look purple. I think you'll get some, Sjoerd.
I have two poblano plants, that a co-worker gave me. Between the 2 I now have 3 about the size of that one and several more very small ones. Hopefully I will be able to get at least 1.

Wow Daniel, that feta recipe sounds like a recipe. my granddaughter loves to make. She cooks on Tuesday and Thursday nights and half the time she makes that recipe. It's so weird some of the things she likes. Pesto and feta come to mind, most kids don't like either one. Your harvest looks very!
