Spekbonen just translates into, “bacon beans”. Where this name comes from, I have no idea. Normally we grow green spekbonen; however this year and last, we grew yellow ones" this year purple ones are coming along. Today was rainy, but we popped out to the lottie to do a couple things between the showers. The winter leeks needed weeding. The Summer sprouting broccoli also needed weeding. …and before packing it in for the day, we weeded the beetroot. These were seeded one to a pot and planted out after having developed a few leaves. So far they are doing well and the rodents have not yet discovered them. Pig Pen was active today.
In NE China there is a pole bean that is grown, and eaten with pork and potatoes. We bought the seeds from a lady at the Farmer's Market. I don't know where she got them.
Daniel—those certainly look similar, don’t they. Your bean plant looks healthy. Farmers’ Markets are a good thing. I wish we had them.
