We get a few Baltimore Orioles in the spring, but the big migration comes in the fall, and it has begun! We have had two so far, a breeding male and a juvenile. We are keeping on the lookout for more, and for other migratories, too!
Sjoerd, yes their colors are orange and black. The only difference between breeding males and juveniles is the wing stripes. We weren't sure what we had in the way of orioles, so we had to look them up in one of our bird books.
Birds are so interesting, also the migrating birds. I still remember the pleasure I had doing migratory bird nest counting and protection. There was so much to learn. I am happy that you two continue your interest in this field.
Orioles are beautiful birds. We have the Hooded Orioles here, the last of them flew South to Mexico this week.
