What have you done today in the Garden?

I love the Lathyrus, Mel. One of my very favourite blooming plants. The smell is heavenly, isn’t it.

Daniel, the second marigold looks like mine. That first one is really pretty! I also have lemon gem marigold. I like their scent. If you want to swap seeds let me know. I collect the lemon every year. The others are volunteers every year and I dig them up and move them where I want them.

 

The onions came inside last night, and today all of the squash need to come inside. Mother Nature said to not drag my heels after today.

All of the smaller Gold Nugget Buttercup were roasted whole and then cut and scooped. There's isn't much to harvest in one, but it 25 there is enough The larger ones will be allowed to cure for a few more weeks. I'm trying to maximize the flavour/sugar factor this year....we shall see



I found this link on a seed sight about winter squash, and how long to cure before eating to get the best flavour. Mine, of course, can't stay on the vine for a natural process of curing with the early frosts. But I am curious if it will make a difference from picking to eating times. (@Daniel W ....I still haven't eaten the big Hubbard....I've blocked it's calls and am exercising one more week of self control )

The Queen of the Squashes has roasted her subjects! They look delicious!

 

Picked more raspberries....I think I'll make one more batch of jelly, and then I was thinking of raspberry infused rum, for Christmas. I don't drink; but my daughter-in-law takes mint home, sometimes, for mojitos during the summer...hence the rum. When my brother and I used to make jellies one of our flavors was raspberry mint. Does anyone here have any idea what a good brand is? Even when I was a young adult that drank I didn't like rum, so I have no idea. And this state doesn't have liquor stores, it sells in grocery stores! So there's no liquor store person to ask. Any input would be appreciated.

That's a lot of squash, Melody. They look nice even if they are small. I wish I had space for squash. The one year I grew it, it went down the end of my raised bed, then I kind of leaned a trellis against the fence so it could grow up it...until it reached the end and kept going. So I made it turn and kind of wove it along the fence. It looked rather comical and took ALOT of space. Needless to say, I haven't planted a squash since. I think I bought some seeds again this year and if I did I am thinking about putting it in front of my garage.

 

Planted more wallflowers along the path and pulled up the tomato plants and harvested the last of the tomatoes. Some are still green but hope that they'll ripen in the cupboard in the dark with some ripe ones.

 

Trimmed wisteria




Using battery op hand clippers makes trimming a breeze.

Wow, that's a lot of wisteria!
Those clippers are great. I've been using battery operated hedge trimmers to clear blackberry brambles. Not easy, but a lot easier than hand pruners. (An H bomb might be faster, but that has side effects).

 

If they are planted along the path, shouldn't they be named "Pathflowers".

Kidding aside, I know they will be beautiful.

 

I'm hoping to be able to remove the last of the carrots today, as well as the kale and swiss chard. We were -4 last night with a heavy frost and frozen water in the wheelbarrow ( my red neck temperature gauge). .

 

Thank you yes they'll look good. Today went to the local garden centre for more compost for the new bulbs and they have the Christmas decorations in, nearly bought a 3ft Santa costing £50.00

 

Too bad you can’t keep those Swiss chards warm enough to eat from throughout the winter.
