In the fall the scissortails migrate, and one of their favorite perches is on the utility wire. Here is one, resting up and hoping for passing flies. See why they are called scissortails?
Wow, what an opportunity. What a bird! It is so interesting to see this unusual bird. What a great place this is. One never knows what’s coming next. Cheers, Marlin.
We did a little research on the flycatcher. It's range is Oklahoma, central and southern Texas, and just the western edges of Arkansas and Louisiana. It winters in Panama. It is the state bird of Oklahoma, as attested by this quarter.
Marlingardener you are very lucky to be able to see these birds. Quite sometime ago I saw a pair of very beautiful bird with very long tail feathers. There is a loop at the end of each tail feather, they are very pretty. I believe these birds are not local here and they were released or escape from the bird park nearby when they closed down. A pair of horn bill was seen too later that day. Some wood peckers were seen too a few days later. What they - the bird park people - did is cruel. After that they were never seen again.
Marlingardener, the first time I saw those was in NE Texas when we lived there. They are so cool looking! My granddaughter and I were just talking about them the other day.
