Hi all, been trying to learn more about gardening and the gardening community lately. I admit I've got a lot to learn! So hello from Baton Rouge -- looks like we've got some fellow Louisianians here as well?

Hello gardenmonkey, I am in Livingston Parish about 30 miles, if that far, from Baton Rouge. Looking forward to getting to know you better. LSU has a great ag center and a great website for learning more about gardening in our area, and there's some pretty smart cookies on this forum, so welcome to the Stew.

Hi cajunbelle, nice to meet you. I just got my Master's degree from LSU last month! I've been in touch with some folks at the AgCenter about doing some web site work with them for 4-H.

To be honest I haven't really considered even keeping plants before since I'm usually too busy (lazy) to keep up with them, but lately I've been obsessed with cilantro/coriander and have been considering trying to grow some myself. I'll look through the forums to see if anyone else has made some cilantro-related posts...

I live in Arizona and cilantro/coriander is a very popular herb for salsa. I planted it in my garden the first year we moved to this house. I never seem to get all the seeds at the end of the season so it comes up in the spring. It's like a prenniel here. It reseeds itself. I just go to the garden and cut cilantro if I want it. Otherwise it grows into tall plants with coriander seeds. I use those in a peppermill with black pepper on just about anything I cook that calls for pepper. I don't know about Louisiana though but there are lots of people from that area on the forum. Good luck! Dooley
