While I was reading about whether it's better to grow roses on their own roots, vs. grafted, I ran across this story. https://germanculture.com.ua/travel-to-germany/thousand-year-rose-of-hildesheim/ Apparently, the cathedral was built at the site of the rose, so the rose bush is older than the original cathedral. It's also durable, and grew back from its roots after the cathedral was destroyed in WWII. The cathedral was rebuilt, and the rose is still there. The article has better and more recent pictures. There are also ginkgo trees that survived and grew back after the atomic bomb in Hiroshima. Some plants can be surprisingly resilient. This is a Rosa canina, also called the Dog Rose.
