Today, I dug up two Tardiva Panicle Hydrangeas that have gotten too big for the border I put them in 14 years ago. That wasn’t easy, I had to call in Bob for reinforcement to get them out of the ground with very big root balls!
I imagined a different look for the border and was able to find 3 Blue Point Juniper babies to grow and serve as a screen (eventually) along the fence there.
I was able to gift the hydrangeas to a daughter of a friend and that always makes me happy to share. The neighbors had a tree right next to our fence and after years of pleading with them that it was a hazard (hanging over our house and deck) it was taken down last December; with us footing half the bill (and well worth it)
It was a failing Ash. Now there is a big empty space and hello neighbors ! The view is not great .
So the sun is shining in places that were always shady. I think the Blue Points will thrive and they get 12-15 feet.

I had to dig up several Hostas too, and relocate to shaded areas. so it was a dig, dig, plant, plant, water, water.
All in all, a very satisfying gardening day!

Kay looks a lot better. It’s unfortunate that you had to pay for the neighbors tree . They are very fortunate to have you as their neighbor. That was a very kind gesture .

Today after I drank my liquid courage, that’s 2 Protein shakes. Went out and cleaned up three porches and pulled all the plants out and put them in the shade patio. Mowed the pastures , checked for gophers, moles . I found two mole mounds and that was it. It’s about time these critters are not coming around . Usually by now there’s mounds everywhere. Keeping the grass hay mowed is making a big difference.

Set out peanut butter suet cakes , refilled the bird good feeders and cleaned a bunch hummer feeders.
Checked the swifts nest and babies have arrived.
Nice to get out on a sunny day.

Planted out the last of the tomato plants, later water all of the blueberries in pots.

Pac I love your Weigela! I have two Dark Horse, and a Wine and Roses that are just beginning to bloom.
The space does look more tidy, the Hydrangeas shaded out that dirt area that I’ll now plant some grass in

Logan- I haven’t planted any tomatoes yet. It’s just too chilly still, but it’s getting close!

Planted 6 tomato plants still got the grape and sun gold to do. Need to hit nursery tomorrow for some container soil and amendments to freshen up the bean, cukes and pepper beds.

Good work there, Kay. That is some hard graft alright. Good luck with those.

Pac—Those Weigela plants are smashing. You have done so well with those. A real pro.

Today I mowed the orchard and yard. The grass was quite tall, so it took a while.

I thinned apples, did a little pruning, and moved the strawberry planters to the front deck.

Moved the Brugmansia out of the garage and pruned it back a bit.

    Lots more to do tomorrow.

Thank you Sjoerd… Wiegelias are on their own a very dependable easy plant.

Daniel.. mowing mowing… it’s a daily thing here and a bumpy ride… I need my seatbelt on. A bit hilly step in some areas.
Really good timing with the weather heating up will slow down the grass growth as it dries out . no moles, voles ground squirrels yet… keeping the grass shaved - literally has really made a difference with the ground critters and even THE deer have not come by . No deer scat anywhere for weeks…:smt041Eliminating all the grass less bugs too. No wild bunny’s…Well ….live and learn.. tomorrow will be another hotter than normal day high 80- 90’s. very unusual for the PNW.

Up-potted some plants and set more out in the shade house.

Yesterday was a day for being brutal on some of the borders. Plants that were out growing their space were either cut back drastically or removed . Some I didn't particularly like we're also removed.

Once again all new plants and seedlings were watered.

We're having a day off today and although I'm looking forward to going into the city for a meal...I really want to just crack on with things out in the garden before the rain hits next week. However hubby needs a break too so it will be nice. :)

@Kay usually we can have a frost until the end of this month but these last few years it's been warmer.
Today just watering pots and bedding plants and helping hubby with cutting the grass later.
@Oreti we all need a break from gardening sometimes.

Most definitely, mind you not exactly a restful day...we went by bus into our little local town first thing this morning and did the weekly grocery shop then went back home to unpack it all. Then walked over a mile to the main through road and caught a bus into Southampton. Have now ordered our lunch and sitting out in the sunshine. After we have finished lunch we are then catching another bus to visit my brother in his new care home. We will stay a couple of hours before walking back home........should be home in time for Gardener's World.:fingerscrossed:

Also important to keep potential fire sources in check. It all adds up.
