@Netty my sincere condolences. I know the love for an animal companion and the deep grief of loss. May you find healing and peace as time passes.

Good Monday afternoon all. Currently just 10°C with a wind and it feels COLD! No sunshine today, which made the day very drab. Just like my mood.
So we went to look at puppies yesterday. I was a little anxious and wasn't sure if getting a puppy so soon was really a good idea, and I wanted reassurance that what I was doing was the right thing, I needed a sign of some kind. Pulling into the lot of the breeder I got the sign I needed ... There was a sticker on the back of a Volkswagen, a German Flag with the word HEINZ on it. My (late) fathers name was Heinz, he was born in Germany and he drove nothing but Volkswagens his whole life. The woman there let out 3 puppies, one of which ran straight to me and started licking my face, the went to my son for some licks, and them went to my daughter and rolled over for a belly rub. Done deal, our puppy picked us!
We will pick him up this weekend. Now to puppy proof the house! Oy, its been over 8 years since we had a puppy I hope I remember what to do!

Puppies are so full of joy! They won't take away your loss, but they will instantly fill all the spaces with their joy and mischief:smt055.

That's what I did when I said goodby to my last one too. That was six years ago and I couldn't get by without Rufus. Totally different guy, but sometimes I still slip up and call him Charlie.

Netty, you did the right thing by getting a puppy, right for you and definitely right for the pup! May I suggest the name "Bowser"?
It rained again last night and we lost electricity for about three hours. We were in bed and the cat was inside, so the only harm done was to my equilibrium. It's getting to be a bit tiresome to lose electricity so often.
No outside stuff today unless we don scuba gear, so cleaning house and making some cheese biscuits. My husband's face lit up when I mentioned making the biscuits, so that is definitely on the agenda!

@marlingardener the storms in Texas are off the chain. Loosing power is such a pain. Nice it’s back on so quickly.

Marlin—Biscuits. There is so much you can do with them. Sorry about the continuing rain there. Do you need to pull your Wellies on when you go out…or does it all run away?

Sojerd. Wellies are necessary. Much more rain and we will turn the front yard into a hay field and the back yard into a fish pond! The soil can absorb just so much water, and it seems it has reached its limit.
Pac, electricity being on so "quickly" is a matter of opinion. I'm a bit touchy on the subject, and being without electricity (no AC, no oven or stove, no lights) is getting on my nerves! We'll survive, but not with smiles on our faces!!!

@marlingardener It’s never easy to cope without electricity any time of year. It’s a hardship in so many ways. Been there…unfortunately. In the worst winter ice storm in 25 years we were without power for 2 weeks. And out in the country it happens a lot since electrical wiring is above ground. Trees falling … you know the drill.
Even now since global warming in the summer the power company turns our power off without warning due to the danger of wildfires and electrical wires coming down.

To have your property turned into a pond is very hard to cope. The soil becomes so saturated and flooding becomes an issue and on top of that no power , it all gets really old fast. So sorry it’s such a challenge, every day is exhausting.

Stay safe and plz keep me posted.Sending blessings your way.

Pac, things are looking up! We had no rain last night and the electricity stayed on. We can cope, we just don't wanna!
The cheese biscuits made yesterday were a hit (have to make more soon), and we have scads of cherry tomatoes in the kitchen. Cat stayed in until 4:30 a.m. and we all got a good night's sleep.
As soon as the dew dries I'll harvest some herbs.
Hope you all have a good day, and we are all looking forward to seeing a photo of Nettie's new puppy!

Marlingardener Good news in your neck of the woods. Such a ‘Relief’ to hear you actually had a good nights sleep and power is on. Keeping my fingers crossed that your property can dry out on. The heavy constant rains can cause havoc on the soil.
You have a good day too ! :smt023

Good Friday evening all. Currently 19°C and sunny. It was a nice day today, and we had a thunderstorm last night so all the gardens were watered.
It was a really LONG week, and I am so glad the work week is over. Tomorrow morning we are going to go pick up our new puppy. So far we can't agree on a name, but maybe once we get to know him something will click. Suggestions are welcome!
Have a great night all :)
