Hello, I live in central Florida and have two Eugenia Shrubs on either side of the front of my house. The shrubs were planted about six years ago. I never dreamed that they would grow this fast! One was growing into my driveway so much that I was forced to trim a huge amount off one side. (Please see attached photos.) Otherwise, my cars automatic brakes would slam on every time that I backed out!! My question is, have a totally ruined the pictured shrub? There is still a lot of healthy of healthy foliage remaining. My idea. Would there be a possibility of trimming the dead branches in that lower area on the shrub in an arch shape back to the trunk. I was then thinking about placing a plant or other much smaller shrub in that area to fill in the space. Is my idea totally unrealistic or, is there hope of saving the remaining healthy part of the shrub and filling in this space with something else. I appreciate any responding thoughts positive or negative. Thanks so much!
I wish I could help you with a useful suggestion. But this bush is not native to my part of the world - Even though our climate are similar under certain circumstances. However worry not, as we have members here who's gardening experience in years can be more then I have actually been alive! So I'm sure someone will have a practical answer for you soon. I too am now interested in knowing.
