We've had a couple of short ,sharp but heavy showers ,they went as quickly as they came and were replaced by sunshine. Currently 19C .
The garden is now looking much happier......and so are we!:D:smt041

Since there is now some cloud cover in the sky, the temperature is now thankfully staying in the high 30s to low 40s of °C.

But still no rains yet. Which unfortunately means that the monsoon season is delayed. Which could have terrible implications in August, when rains will start. As those would be extra heavy rains, (compensating for no rains in June and July). So that could result in flooding of both urban and rural areas - therefore at first it doesn't rain, but when it does, it pours... Thus making delayed rains very counterproductive for agriculture - That's climate change.

Another thing which is kind of a surprise. Is that I today overhead a conversation a doctor was having with someone else. She said that now more and more people over here are experiencing Vitamin D deficiency, which she of course has to first diagnose and later treat.

This didn't feel right to me. As Vitamin D deficiency is often in areas of the world which don't get enough sunlight - While we here are roasting in it... But apparently, many people are now staying indoors during daylight hours, to avoid the scorching sun. So those are the ones who now have Vitamin D deficiency, (which was unheard of in our part of the world).

Staying indoors. I watered in early am. Watching to see what plants can't take it. I won't grow those next year.

The bigger leafed dahlias in containers wilted but recovered overnight with water and a cool night. The dwarf dahlias with smaller leaves are fine. The nasturtiums recovered in the shade. Daylilies seem fine. Geraniums (pelargoniums) look quite happy except some of the flowers char. Some varieties more than others. The "normal" summer annuals - zinnias, marigolds, cosmos - are all unfazed. Also the rose moss. Mandevillas seem OK too.

@Daniel W Appreciate the evaluation on several varieties of summer plants that hold up well to extreme heat.
My hydrangeas in the garden do very well placed in shade and watered regularly . The hydrangeas in full to part sun the leaves shrivel . Heat stress causes rapid evaporation, so plants curl up to conserve moisture. Once the sun passes over and shade returns they recover over night.

I have been known to place sun umbrellas over my dahlias or greenhouse shade cloth to prevent the blooms from fading. Best if planted in an area where they get afternoon shade. There is a dahlia called ‘Heatwave’. Bright red , the name is fitting for the season.

The high temps and total sun exposure, no shade is tricky for most plants to acclamate. Even the yuccas and several desert plants seem to struggle .

Today is a sizzler…bright blue skies a slight breeze …Yahoo!… and the trees are doing their job cooling the garden and home thru respiration.

Well, life is change and we are living in interesting times. My grandfather used to say ranching/farming were a gambling man’s occupation. You never knew what the markets or weather would do.

I just feel thankful for a cool place to hang out in the heat. And I live in a much more temperate area. Phoenix Arizona has had almost 50% more heat related deaths so far this year. Not everyone is so lucky. IMG_9281.jpeg

    Ditto @Pacnorwest.
Same general weather as you and Daniel. My puppy wants to go out and play but won’t stay outside for more than a few minutes. Cabin fever setting in with the heat. We are outside by 5:30 Am and inside by 10.AM. Gives her enough time to destroy every flying insect in the yard.:( Will be back outside around 8PM
