The leaf routine … tomorrow the same as today. Rinse and repeat.

Logan, come Spring those tulips will be beautiful.

@Pacnorwest thank you. Sometimes, the images can express my thoughts better than my words.

Also, lots of leaves! What a blessing.

Today I pruned the drooping leaves off the front yard palms. Now I can mow closer without the threat being impaled by sharp palm frond. I like how they quiver in the wind, like a palm version of quaking aspen or some sort of bird dance.

    Also, two pear trees.

    After

I also cleaned up a raised bed. It had beans, and before that, garlic. Next year I'm planning to plant tomatoes there.

It still needs supplements coffee grounds, chicken bone meal, and egg shells. Then I can turn over the top few inches and cover it.

I adore your palm trees @Daniel W . How in the world did you manage them in our weather. How long have you had them. They look beautiful. :smt026 Very impressive :setf_016:Is there anything that you can’t grow .
I had a couple hardy Chinese Windmill Palms - Trachycarpus fortunei and they both croaked during an unusual cold snap and ice storm in 2017.

We had several days of high winds, so no leaf raking. It is pointless to try and rake leaves in high winds. We had some rain Thursday night, and a frost. It was not supposed to frost, but it did anyway. We had more rain overnight, and I was planning to rake today. I got out and cleaned up after my dogs, and then the rain started. So, I worked indoors. I did some mending, and canned the last of my garden tomatoes. I had put some in the freezer to wait for the others to ripen. Finally most were ripened enough, and what was not usuable I gave to my chickens. I got 2 quarts and 4 pints put up. Maybe I can make elderberry jam one day this week. It will free up some freezer space. The elderberries are from my own bushes. Now that we have had some rain, maybe I can dig out a few elderberry bushes for my friends?

Oklahoma had a lot of tornadoes overnight last night, including OK City. My oldest granddaughter and kids live there. I hope they are okay.

I have a few small sewing projects to do tonight. It is only mending, but the garments are worth mending.

These are 9 and 14 years old. The one I planted at the old place in Vancouver is 24 years old.

I don't do anything special for them. No fertilizer - I think it might make faster but less tough growth.

They are fun. Both are Trachycarpus fortunei. bought from local stores.

Nice your palms are doing great @Daniel . Hardy palms are a great way to create structure and interest . One of the punctuation marks that adds height and texture of spikey fronds. A real stand out in your garden. :smt023

"It was a dark and stormy night" last night. We had very strong storms and winds and heavy rains, and we are expecting more today, and probably tomorrow? We have a lull in the rain at the moment, maybe I should try to do something? I think we had about 8" of rain overnight? We had about 3" total before that from Thursday and Saturday nights. I usually sleep right through most storms, but these woke me a lot. I just pray and go back to sleep again. No noticeable damage here, other than a certain leak in the hallway, and an old chimney.

Guess I will walk my dogs, and if there is still a lull, I will see if I can get anything done outside. I did get a few mending projects done yesterday. If not, I have lots of indoor projects to work on. bird house projects.jpg

Some bird houses to repair on the 3 right ones. For the 2 left ones, I will remodel into birdhouses. I ordered some tiny hinges so I can fix them up. I have various odds n ends to use to do the work.

    calendula.jpg

A friend on another forum found out these are calendulas. I planted some of the seeds, and will save some back also. I have been wondering all summer what these were. They are from that variety pack a friend gave me in spring, and were the only ones that grew.

@AAnightowl you must have experienced a whopper of a storm. Sorry about the roof leak. What a pain. I hope it’s an easy fix. What am I'm saying roof repairs are never an easy fix. Been up there during a rain/wind storm as a leak over my bed started to drip then into a waterfall. With a flash light, a can of tar muck , trowel , flashlight and broom in hand up to the roof to patch the leak at 10:00 PM in the middle of a wind/rain storm . Who ya gonna call in the middle of the night. Gees the things we get stuck doing off the cuff. I’m never to old to fix a roof leak especially when it’s over my bed. :nerdy:
Nice calendula and birdhouses. Winter prep is a busy time of year.
