Great pic of the hedgehog. Nice account of their coming and going. I wonder if they will move in and set up house soon. Any names for them yet. That guy looks like he/she is a bit chubby can barely make it thru the doors. Cute lil guys and very lucky to have such a kind generous friend to make such a welcoming home for Mr and Mrs hedge.
The hedgehog made its first appearance 14 minutes later than the previous evening. In and out several times again during the night and early morning. Passed by the doorway in the fence once, but didn't go out of the garden, nor did any others come in. Maybe others have already started to hibernate. Not all the food left out was eaten.
A check on the cameras this morning revealed no activity at all last night and the food remained untouched. I'll continue to put some out for a few days. There's been an awful lot of work being done on the inside of the adjoining semi and half the garden has been paved. The back half still has all the branches of the huge tree that was cut down, but the main trunk has still to come down. All this has still to be cleared. Whether this will have any effect on other hedgehogs I don't know.
Quite possibly, I'm going to keep the cameras going for a few days, just in case there's any more appearances.
In addition to the main theme of hedgehog visitors, now I learn a new expression. Argy bargy. How did I go through life without that expression? I learn so much on this website. Plus I get to follow along, about the hedgehog visitors.
There's unlikely to be any more "argy-bargy" for quite a few months, not even a "kerfuffle." I'll stop putting food out and bring in the cameras later in the week, if there's nothing to report. So I'll be relieved of "hedgehog housekeeping," until around March. I will need to make a new hedgehog feeding station during the winter as the present one is "hanging" and there's a split in the roof. I think the effect of the sun causes the plastic to go brittle. I'll just need to buy a new plastic storage box and cut a hole in one end, as I can re-use the tubular entrance I made for the old one.
It's now been three days since there's been no hedgehog activity, at all. I'm pretty sure there's one hibernating in the house next to the patio. But I won't disturb it. So I've brought the cameras in and removed the batteries. They're rechargeable, so I'll save them for next year. I've brought the feeder into the garage. I'll take the entrance off it and bin the rest. I'll need to look for a substantial plastic box to make a new feeder in the next few months, some of them are so flimsy.
I've dug out this old thread, to include current activity. Quite a lot of activity last night, all the food in both feeders was eaten. There were four "ins" through the doorway, like this. Followed consecutively by four "outs" like this. This was over a period of about six hours. Whether this was just one hedgehog or more than one, I don't know. But I suspect there were more, as one wouldn't have eaten that much food. There was no traffic through the other doorway.
The first one looks a lot bigger than the second. Bit of a tub, he is !! So, it looks like two different individuals to my eyes.
I'm pleased with the quality of the images taken by my newest camera which was less than £40, post-free from Apeman. The videos are just as clear. There was a bit of traffic in and out of this doorway last night. The last activation was an "in" on this camera. The food in both feeders was eaten. The house under the azaleas got some attention. Though the last image was an "out." Except for some "passing traffic" early this morning. The audio on these cameras is impressive. I could hear kids in a garden several houses away at around 10.00pm last night. I've still no idea how many hedgehogs there are, or whether any of the three houses have residents. But they must be happy with the current situation.
