I did get 4 more loads of wood chips hauled to my compost and a few flower beds. The wheelbarrow is heavy. That pile is slowly diminishing. (It was originally 2 large truck loads of wood chips)

My asparagus is fading and going to seed. I have some lettuce growing, and the parsley still looks good. I don't think the peas will do anything, but its okay. The beets look nice, the onions and garlics all look good. I still have a few marigold plants, but it is to be in the 20s tonight, so they will all be done. The carrot seedlings are thick, rain washed them all over the beds. My dill seedlings look nice. I will get some leaves on them tomorrow I hope. I scattered some of my calendula seeds in various areas. My broccoli plants do not have heads, but they do look good otherwise.

I was out in our garden by 8:30 this morning ( a tad nippy in our north facing garden at this time of year )and managed to cut back, mulch and bed down 2 more borders worth of Dahlias ( 10 plants) . We are currently in town enjoying a lovely lunch overlooking the Solent water in beautiful sunshine.

In case we get home too late I have thrown protective coverings over the remaining Dahlias as we have heavy rain and gale force winds forecast for Saturday and Sunday. So hopefully the ground will now not get so soaked around them now. :fingerscrossed:

What fun you are having. I can imagine the view must be wonderful. Colud you see the Isle of Wight from your seat?
Hampshire is such a lovely county. Enjoy that sunshine !

Not quite as cold today, no rain, but too wet to do anything in the garden.

I pruned the remaining fig trees in my "Adam and Eve Wardrobe Grove". Otherwise known as the row of fig trees by the easement. I cut them all back to six feet tall, trying to leave a few nodes of this year's growth wherever possible.

I also tidied up a bit, removing plant containers and arranging a few edging stones. Not much.

@Daniel I like the Adam and Eve Wardrobe Grove. How clever.. :chuckle::snicker::smt044 …created a picture in my head. All those fig leaves worked out great.

Today had a nice long sunbreak. A bit chilly with slight wind. Just did the mulch and mow again. I am close to the end of leaf mulching / needle clean up…4&1/2 hours today, not only just leaves but tons of poisonous mushrooms. I think every needle fell off the Douglas firs and eastern larch and hemlocks from the wind storms. In some areas the needle were over an inch high. Now the leaves, pine cones and needles are mulch. Tomarrow the roof needs clearing again. Recharge my batteries and the leaf blower and we’ll be all ready to go, just need dry weather and time to clear the needles and leaves.

DS got home for a few days today. I hope he gets to stay a whole week.

I showed him the post holes for the new fence posts/pieces of the old telephone pole this evening. I have the holes as deep as the long shovel blade, but he says they need to be a lot deeper. Guess I will work on those tomorrow. Post hole digging is not something I am good at. Maybe he will help too?

Nothing this weekend as we're still in the midst of Storm Berts gale force winds ,not that I would be doing anything anyway as we have our youngest son visiting for the weekend. :)

Have you a two piece post hole spade?

    These can be hired.

When I erected a 6ft post and panel fence twenty years ago, between ours and a neighbour's garden, (on my own), the concrete posts were 8ft. "They were a bit heavy."

Daniel— that was a comical description. It made me chuckle. Like Pac I immediately started remembering old paintings that I have seen.

Good work, Pac— you just keep working-away, don’t you. We have sun here today but that hard wind is bitter upon the cheeks.

AA— good luck with getting the fenceposts planted.
