Do you keep a light to lengthen their days? I fead that is supposed to work. I don't think my hens read that book.

    Congrats Willow!

As always, Riley, you keep it looking like a park.

Maybe in fifteen years mine will be more park-like. A neighbor commented he thought it was that way already, but it isn't.

Here are the three David Austin English Roses that I kept on the patio this year. They grew and bloomed nicely.

    IMG_0396.jpeg

I pruned them about half-way back, removed the old leaf mulch, and gave them a thick layer of clean, dry, chestnut leaves. Then I moved the pots to the North side of the main shed, where I hope they won't go through too many unwanted warming / freezing cycles.

It's taken all of my willpower not to add another. The group is "missing" a fragrant white rose. There are also two English Roses in larger containers in the vegetable garden. I want to transplant at least one of those (Vanessa Bell, very pale yellow and strong fruity tea rose scent) into a patio container too. I will wait until March or so.

I pruned about 1/3 of the high branches from the Jonagold apple tree. Such a delicious, juicy, apple. I might need to use a short step-ladder to get the rest, which violates my "no climbing on ladders" rules. I'm no Doghouse Riley :).

I cut down the last of the raspberry brambles. They were too much work, and we are still eating low carb anyway. That space will be a needed garden path.

Hi @Logan . They are in some netted bags ( I save onion bags) and then hung up in the cupboard in our lobby ( where we hang out gardening coats). I keep a check on them regularly. I have also used a pair of tights in the past too which also works well as you can knot the leg as you go keeping each corm separate.

You've most welcome, our lobby is unheated but has proved ok in the past, especially if we get any afternoon sun.:like:

@Oreti still stuck with language difference. Lobby = sun room or entry to home? Lobby here = the ground floor in a Hotel where service desk is located and sitting area.
Nice to hear the technique used to over winter your corms.

Entry to home Pac......bigger than a porch though, we have cupboards and table in there, also chairs are placed in there to make the most of the Winter sun and look out over the garden....it can get toasty warm in there.
Definitely not like a Hotel Lobby though. :)

Thanks Daniel....10 days! I broke the news to the kids yesterday and today. The upper elementary seemed more upset then the adolescents. I thought it would be the other way.

It looks like the weather will prevent much work in the garden over the whole week-end, although fortunately I'm pretty much up to date with everything.

I was planning to get into this Amber clematis and jasmine, on the fence next to the kitchen window.

I let the clematis rather run riot over the summer and I'd already taken clumps of it off in October. Now that "the dog can see the rabbit," I intend to prune it back so I can train it to go where I want in the spring,

Nothing so far apart from collecting up flying objects....roof slates, pots and trays ( that I had thought I had secured down prior to the storm). Just heard another crash to find one of our patio tables lying on the main lawn ( again thought it was tied down) fortunately the big wooded one is still in place. We have an old tall fridge tucked away ( still trying to make up my mind what I can reuse the shelves for in the greenhouse :whistling:) and although it's heavy the wind has managed to move it along the patio quite a significant way!!!. Now on garden watch alert. :)

    Keep safe everyone.

Just had to retrieve the old fridge again as it's been on another walkabout. One fence panel is also missing now, it was a tad rickety and my neighbours were due to replace it.

Wind storms can wreak havoc over everything and anything that’s not secured in place. Blow over huge tree cause power outages . The day after can be a lot of clean up for garden plants , trees and shrubs. I’m holding my breath we don’t get another wind storm . I’m running out of energy. It’s a clean up from seasonal plants to ready for the winter slam season. Just finished the leaf clean up. It’s always something. Well …. tomorrow is another day.:).
