Good Friday morning all. Currently -10°C and overcast. Another gloomy day ahead.
I got my errands and lots of Christmas shopping done yesterday. I also finally bought myself some jeans that fit after my 30 lb weight loss. I may just start feeling human again!
Today some housework - I'm still decluttering. We'll be heading to the rink tonight.
Have a great day all :)

Netty— well done on your weight loss ! That is quite an accomplishment.
30 pounds was enough though, right? I did not have the impression that you needed to loose weight though.
Well, one thing is for sure and that is that you are a very active person. Chapeau.

Unfortunately I can't be with you in body but will definitely be in spirit @Netty .

Take gentle baby steps for as long as you need to. You haven't been set a challenge or enrol!ed in a race....this is yours and the family's own personal journey that only you can navigate, your inner self will set the pace and let nobody else try to speed it up. Take as long as you all need, we will be here to support you.
Love and comforting hugs to you and the family.xxxx

I made a big pot of chili today, and worked on a quilt.

Returning home from a grocery trip, the big SUV in front of me slowly turned into a busy lane of fast traffic, was quickly T-boned by a much smaller sport truck, which flipped it over. I saw the entire thing, which at one point seemed like slow motion (the SUV flipping over). It literally went air-borne for a moment.

    IMG_0440.jpeg

I was alarmed when I saw what the SUV was doing, and braked and moved onto the shoulder, thinking "that stupid person is going to cause an accident!" (Except the word I thought wasn't "person".). Somehow I wasn't hit by vehicles or debris. I pulled off the road into a cul-de-sac, turned on my hazard lights, and walked carefully to the wrecked vehicles. I didn't know the right thing to do. This was in front of a leather / Harley gathering place. They called 911. I thought the main thing was to not pull the motorists out (not even possible) until paramedics arrived, which could exacerbate injuries. Also, the SUV was leaking gasoline. Initially the drivers weren't responding. I thought the worst. The EMTs arrived quickly. Their station was about a quarter mile from the collision.

They used an axe to get this driver out.

    IMG_0441.jpeg

Sort of like opening an old-style sardine can. That driver regained consciousness. I don't know about the other.

Since I witnessed the entire debacle, I waited around and groused with the bikers, who were old Vietnam vets, about how slow the police were to arrive and how clueless the drivers are around here, and they are always speeding there. But eventually the sheriff arrived, I made my witness statement, and was on my way.

I don't think I want to drive any more...

Glad you’re safe Daniel. That was a scary trip back from the grocery store.

Oh my what a horrid thing to witness @Daniel W !!
So glad that you were unharmed and that there weren't any fatalities.

It certainly can be quite scary out there on our roads these days.:(

Good Saturday morning all. Currently -11°C and clear. The full moon is shining brightly.
I seem to have a new morning routine, which gets me up between 5:15 and 5:45 each morning. I let the dog out, get ready for the day and then have my coffee. I've been doing some gift wrapping, or paying bills and sometimes just watching the news. Then we go for our walk. I've always loved mornings, its just a little different in the winter time. If it was summer I would be out in the garden.
This morning we are at the rink for 4 hours, then it will be home to enjoy the nice day outdoors.
Have a great day all :)
Oh Daniel, what a thing to witness!

    Holy cow, Daniel !
That was quite an experience alright. Being a retired military medic, you could probably have offered some help if the EMT’s had been late in arriving. It all sounded a bit dramatic. Sheeesh.
We had to chuckle when you quipped that you didn’t think you wanted to drive anymore. I like it that you can still find some humour after such an experience.

Glad that you were not involved.

@Daniel W so many accidents seem to be happening especially this time of year. Your sad tale is why I installed a dash cam and rear cam. It really helps me feel secure when out and about, knowing the trip is on video tape. Keeps me on task and correct speed. It seems like lately every time I’m out on the roads there is always one close call. No joke. I’m with you driving always requires constant offensive driving skills to get from point A to pt. B. It’s exhausting. I’d rather be on a horse , a lot more dependable.

My car GPS tells me the speed limit and tells me if Im over it. It's not right on every rural road but I like having it. Where that accident happened, it's posted as 35 but people often drive 50 because the roads before that i intersection are 50. Also like that on the road to my house.

It was a very sobering reminder of high awareness on the road, and avoiding distraction. I still ask myself how I had the insight to take evasive action before the actual collision. But I did.

A few years ago, 12 year old girl waiting for a school bus was hit and killed by a motorist not far from here. Heartbreaking. But it didn't change behavior.

Good Sunday morning all. Currently -5°C and clear. The full moon is shining brightly again, and I could hear a coyote howling just a while before I got up. It was close by, but not too close.
I was up before 6 am again, and wrapped a couple of Christmas gifts before having my coffee. My Christmas shopping has been coming along nicely.
Today, I want to enjoy the sunny day forecast and clean my car out, and hopefully burn some more from the brush pile. It would be nice to get that corner of the yard cleaned up.
Have a great day all :)

Netty— I hope that you can enjoy that sun. Here it is raining again. I am jealous.:)

You know, you are always talking about going to the skating, but what sort of things do your skaters do? Is it practice? Is it competitions? Is it just for pleasure. Could you describe it a little?

I have been absent due to some unscheduled renovations for family that is coming over the holidays. A lot of cleaning out and removing. Almost done! I'm so glad to hopefully be done soon.

Netty - I had a very close friend that called home chores "home care", and in a times of trouble called it "self care". It allows us to reset.

burning brush piles...that sounds life fun!

I am so glad that you have Thunder

Good Tuesday morning all. Currently 3°C and overcast. It rained most of the night.
Yesterday I sat and worked on a budget. Now that I'm a one income family, I'm looking for ways to save money. Decided to get rid of the satellite tv - that was always hubbys thing. I don't watch tv and the kids do everything online. I also modified my cell phone and landline packages and just doing those 3 things saves me $200 a month! Now I'm looking at other ways to save, this could get interesting haha
I took a break from the house clear out yesterday, so I'll get back to that today after my auto appointment.
My daughter started skating lessons when she was 9. As the years went on, she became very good at it, and when she got skilled enough she started coaching. Since I was always at the arena (and have a big problem sitting still), I started volunteering with her skating club. Fast forward to the last few years when I became part of the Board of Directors and became an important part of the daily operations of the club. DD is still taking lessons, skating and competing as well as teaching kids ages 3 and up how to skate and Coaching young figure skaters. We are at a rink 5-6 days a week this time of year. It fills in my down time when I can't garden :)
