Enjoyed a couple of hrs out in our nursery area, opened up one half of out large lean-to coldframe and removed all the Geraniums. Gave them a light tidy up ( will cut back a bit more next month) and gave them a watering. Did find the terrain a bit uncomfortable to walk/ stand for prolonged times on so ended up having to use a garden chair for some rest breaks. Resize_20250218_171549_9676.jpg

If I don't go on another walk tomorrow ( walked half a mile yesterday up to the farm and back.:smt026) then I will open up the other side of the coldframe.

Logan, I'm glad you're better. I know I don't like being laid up.

I need to go get milk, but I really am dreading it. It's 9F with a real feel of -3. I want spring! In my seed advent calendar, that I got for my retirement countdown, there were strawberry seeds. I think I'll plant them today. I've never started strawberries from seed, so we shall see.

@Oreti thanks for your kind response. :) I plan to rest the wrist and use the wrist/thumb support wrap to keep it stable. In a day or two weather permitting , I will start the clean up. Just one day at a time respecting my limitations.
At least it’s something to keep me outta trouble for awhile. :fingerscrossed:

Beautiful geraniums brings lots of smiles. Reminds me there is so much to look foreword to , soon it will be spring. It’s great news to see how well your healing journey is progressing.

    Take care Pac.
Knowing your limitations is so important. I am at the stage now of not really knowing mine...am I not doing enough....or am I doing too much?? There are so many conflicting recommendations. All I know is that my knee swells up badly by evening and is still too uncomfortable to get any real beneficial sleep. But then you're told to keep it moving as the first 2months are the most important times for establishing the full range of movement. I just don't know, and I won't be seeing the Consultant again now as he signed me off last week.

Oreti When you’re doing enough your body is happy. :) When your over doing your body is unhappy. :(
You know the drill… keep it moving simple and follow your instincts. One day at a time. Soon you will be moving around with no restraint’s and dancing in your beautiful garden. :headbang:

We are getting that snowstorm all day long, so nothing but pet chores today. I did most of them early so I would not have to be outdoors too much. I think we have about 6" so far, but at least it is not the 16" they said.

I tried winter sowing some years ago, but not much success with the milk jugs/containers. Maybe I did it wrong. However, I do winter sow things like echinacea, zinnias, marigolds and cosmos and a few others, but I plant them directly and they do fine. I did see a lady using zipper bags for winter sowing on you tube. I forgot her name.

I put plastic over my ginger pots, and over the seed trays for now to keep them moist and a bit warmer. Also, I have the ginger next to the window and a small lamp. I hope to get the heat mats in early March. I have misplaced a certain piece of fabric I was going to use to put over a doorway to keep the room warmer. Maybe I can find a different piece that is big enough.

Yes you're right @Pacnorwest .....it's just safely knowing your limitations. Tad scary as the surgery is still in it's early healing stages and to be totally discharged last week makes me feel left to gauge my recovery from internet research. I was worried 2 days ago that I might have had a blood clot as my leg was so tender and swollen ( and I've had a clot in this leg before) I just sat it out waiting to see it anything awful happened..:fingerscrossed:.....no good phoning the Dr, as it takes weeks to be seen and in the meantime they advise you to go and see your local pharmacist!!
What would we do without the internet!!!!

I also use ziploc bags @AAnightowl with damp kitchen roll to germinate seeds, saves having trays of seeds sown in compost everywhere inside the house.
It can be so difficult to maintain the correct environment inside our homes for germination at this time of year. The way our house faces makes it a tad challenging, I don't really like having trays all over the place.......they can quickly take over a room, so I try and aim at the minimal need for indoor seed sowing. This year there will be none. I'm using this year as a tester...hoping it will lead me towards a significant change in the way and the amount of sowing that I really need to do in future. Salad crops will always be a necessity for us.:like::)
