Thanks for that. You're right. Twenty years ago I had a second-hand one, but it died. It was rarely used.
I'm pretty sure at my age I won't need one again.

No gardening today, I'm trying to keep off my lawn to give it a chance to recover from the winter. The patios need a bit of re-pointing, but that can wait until we get some warm weather. But I will repaint some of my garden woodwork before the wisteria blossoms get in the way.

I've some domestic chores to do today and I might get into one of my other hobbies.

My jukeboxes get little use in the winter, although I just play a few tracks each week, "as use is the best form of preventative maintenance." But the records in their carousels could do with being taken out and given a clean with record cleaning fluid. I do it every year.

The stylus does pass over a little brush before and after playing a record, so any lint gets removed. But that's not enough.

I'll also give both of them a drop of oil, "where it's supposed to go."

You work so hard @Doghouse Riley on your fabulous garden ,you most definitely deserve a day enjoying your other hobbies. Have a lovely day.:)

Just returned from my walk along our lane..without crutches or my Dad's walking stick.....so onwards and upwards!!!:D

Stunning day and it's lovely to see the hedgerows coming to life and all the birds eagerly scouting for potential nesting sites.

Will get out into the garden and attempt some more border tidying . That's the plan.:fingerscrossed::D

    Have a fab day everyone.

I am @Pacnorwest :like:, now that I've added a daily walk up /down our lane with the 10 daily exercises I tend to limit myself to an hour of cutting back/ pulling up out in the garden . Lots of elevating of my poorly knee too.:smt001 Thanks for your caring reminders. X

Finished digging up the currant bushes and replaced with new. £11.99 for 3 the one is only a stick but it's good for the price, going to put spring bulbs in, in the autumn.

I planted a few more seeds today. Not a lot, just so I can say I got some veggies from the garden, assuming they grow. IMG_0994.jpeg

I worked at my church community center this morning, and it rained most of the day anyway. A sewing machine had been donated, so I brought it home to clean and oil it and make sure it works. It works fine, and needs two small parts to be good as new. It will probably be sold at our fundraiser later this spring. It is a good little machine. I have a similar one of my own, and my vintage Singer machine.

They are forecasting snow overnight. My foot will get a few more days rest. I have been soaking it in epsom salts water in the evenings.

No snow, but it was very cold and we had 50-60 mph winds all day, and branches down. Nothing major, but I stayed indoors and did stuff. We did have a few flurries.

Today I did more work on the rose garden renovation.

Mostly, I scooted around on my gardenstool / scooter / bench, using the new battery-operated clippers to cut wild blackberries at the ground level. Then I raked them into piles. I also did some more rose pruning.

This is the duck yard too. They watched me with suspicion. Or maybe they were judging me. It's hard to tell with ducks.

The wild blackberries got out of hand last year, when I was too ill to maintain it. They are opportunists. The roses survived fine, but some grew very very tall.

I'm still not certain what I will do to make it easier to maintain in the future. I'm tempted to just even up the uneven spots, and mow it regularly. Grass is moving in, anyway. I can mulch around each rose bush, using wood chips.

There is weed barrier under the existing mulch. It didn't help. I don't want to go to the effort to pull it up. I think regular mowing will keep the blackberries from taking over again.

I could broadcast grass seed there. That would be more responsible, from a wildfire risk standpoint, than spreading wood chips. As long as the grass is kept short, under 4 inches.

    Looking good @Daniel W .

Allowing it to grass over seems the best option especially as you pointed out the potential fire risk hazard of wood chip. The bonus will also be that the blackberry brambles will be kept in check with the mowing. Sounds like a winner! :like:

Yesterday checked over all the Strawberry plants ( old and new) to keep a check on Vine Weevil....all looks good.:like: Hubs did a lot of the bigger cutting back jobs and also tidied up the border at the far side that runs the whole length. It slopes slightly downwards and is surprisingly uncomfortable at the moment for me to work on for any length of time. I also tidied up some of the potted grasses, debating whether to plant them out into the borders this year.
Not sure if I will get much chance to do much out there today as I have an early afternoon Physio session at the hospital....it will depend on how hard they work me I think!!!:D

It was sunny and mild today. I did get some of the branches picked up and put in the burn pile for later. I had to run errands earlier.

However, while I was out I bought seed potatoes, red beet seeds, horseradish roots, some rhubarb roots, some onion sets, a few garden stakes, spinach seed, pea seeds, and a big store sweet potato to make slips with. That is all things that I can plant now. Maybe I can get outdoors Sunday and plant them. I put that sweet potato into a jar of water to get started on slips. My friend with lots of mineral tubs will bring me some more tubs in a few days.
