I cut down my Davidii Buddleia to see if it was truly dead. It was. Picked up a load of sticks in the yard in preparation for mowing later and put those out in the ditch for collection. Dug out the three dead Buddleias and got a 20' stretch of that bed weeded before lunch. After lunch I mowed the half acre, cleaned up the mower, blew off the walkways and called it a day.

Oh sorry that the buddleia hybrids were so fussy didn’t cooperate like a good plant should. Most of the buddliea’s in my garden are hardy thru zone 5-8. Buddleia’s hardy to zone 9 and 10 are usually tropical looking. Not sure what zone ur in.
They are also a lot to maintain and trim every year similar to trimming hydrangeas…and the trunk is the size of a small tree. It’s a pain to trim every year careful not to trim off the blooms for the next year is tricky. I use a small battery op chain saw to trim the bigger branches and the smaller limbs I use a bettery op hand clippers. The wood is tough and some older plant roots can cause damage to nearby buildings. Thank goodness I planted it far away from the house. Because mine are the invasive type in my zone planted years ago before they were added to the invasive species list.

However they have not never popped up anywhere on the property or next door. So I think the critters help contain them in other areas not cultured for landscapes. Never popped up in the woods next door. I keep an eye out for that sort of thing. Don’t want to be a careless gardener that allows invasive species to escape my garden .

Rained like crazy today. I did manage to re-pot most of the tomato seedlings, into 4" pots. Also set up the seedling rack with big LEDs for all of those seedlings.

When I am told to ''rest'' I usually reply with words similar to '' I really shouldn't - it will cause me to seize up altogether'' :)

I planted out an Aubergine ( eggplant plant), Two basil next to the cucumbers and added one more cucumber there. Then cleared a bed of peas and planted out some red amaranthe there, 6 of those and stuck the other three in the lettuce bed that I cleared last week.

I slipped and fell the end of March...It was dark. Anyway, I am such a klutz and have injured myself many times. Enough to keep you all bored a long time. I am sore and stiff and bruised.

Some of the stiff and sore is from the ditch digging. I am making progress, but still a lot to go, maybe another 50 to 75 ft? At least all of the rain make the ground soft, and filled what is done so far. DS is due home sometime over the weekend, and hopefully we can finish the ditch and pipe replacement this coming week. I will be glad to have it done.

I did plant some spinach and broccoli and leek seeds this week, and did some weeding. I cleaned the dead canes out of half of my wild black raspberry patch this afternoon.

My potatoes are up and going. I think there are some redbeet sprouts up. My onions are doing well, except the chives are not back. Carrots that I planted last fall are up, but the rains washed them all around. The dogwoods are blooming, the redbuds are still blooming, and the jonquils. The parsley is doing well, and the oregano, the thyme, and comfrey, and my new blueberry bushes look good. The strawberries look good. The peas are up and going.

My favorite cherry tree seems about dead. It has just a few small leaves on it. It was covered with thousands of cicadas last summer, which allegedly do not harm trees. They harmed this one.

My pear tree has been full of blooms, hopefully they do not get frozen off. We had a couple of frosts this week.

I also mowed my grass this week for the first time this season so my yard looks nice.

Cool morning with rain coming for next few days so I did Lincoln peas, Buttercrunch, Black Simpson, Salad Bowl Mix Lettuce seeds. Also planted my red and Spanish onion I got from local nursery (seeds never germinated). Still have to chit my potatoes maybe after work or tomorrow morning.

So far, I planted out 3Nicotiana alba plants on the north side of my screen porch, repotted two Chitalpa El Nino plants that I started from cuttings last fall. Then I planted out three marigolds in my south facing border and spread some bunching onion seed in the south border just to see if they'll sprout as the seed is old. I was going to weedeat the ditch but the city came along and did it for me !! . Highly unusual that !!

Not much going on outside around here - cool and rainy until Sunday. Did plant my kale, swiss chard and leek starts in last nights drizzle. Plan on doing my different melon seeds along with cucumbers this weekend.

Not a lot today other than some watering..."eventually."

I've a couple of double hose points. One is near the back door, it's for my Hoselock hose reel, I use it to water the front garden and another for when I want to fill a watering can.
The other is on the side of the shed. One for the other Hoselock hose reel and another for filling a watering can.
They all leaked a bit. After many years, the seals tend to go a bit on the Hoselock and similar connectors, In the end, I had to change five, as well as renewing the PTFE tape on the brass fittings.

I did check the twelve roses in their ceramic pots on this patio. Lots of buds coming and so far no sign of black spot, but it's early days.

I did some trimming and pruning. I had to pull out my 21" EGO mower to cut the grass between some of my hedges since the 42" rider won't fit in there. After that I transplanted the parsley that I'd grown from seed indoors, to planters outside in the shade. I checked my veg and still have green tomatoes and courgettes that are too small to pick yet.

Still haven't fitted the new drive belt to my new mower Annie

Had an idea with the North end of the fruit tunnel, been fitting close weaved ground cover to keep the wind out :smt041

On the North side with the wind coming off the North Sea it's like South Georgia in the Falkland Islands

    DSC09138.jpg

Inside, with the sun on the black fabric now it's more like South Georgia in the USA :D

    DSC09141.jpg

I'll measure the temperature difference tomorrow. Got just about enough fabric to go round the lower veg plot as well to cut the East wind :)
