:-D Hello everyone!!! Have been enjoying this forum for some time and finally decided to join in the melee. I live just south of Baton Rouge in Geismar. Just moving into a new house without much landscaping. I am sooooo ready to get my hands dirty. My neighbor has a horse barn and gave me a huge pile of the good stuff from his barn. It's been seating out there for almost a year. Does anyone think it might be ready to use???? I would be willing to share some of it. Maybe somebody nearby has a few irises, daylilies or other pretties to share???? Let me know. Calamity
Hi Calamity,I'm so glad you finally decided to join us.I'm from central Texas but lots here from Louisiana. We learn so much and love to get into the dirt.Many people on here has lots of knowledge about plants and soil.I think your horse manure is probably ready to till into the dirt.I bet someone will be along soon that knows more about horse poop than me.I use mushroom compost it has lots of other things in it but has chicken poopin it for sure.

OOOO you have piles of manure - lovely. :-D It only takes about six months for horse manure to be useable, and as long as you've been turning it, go ahead and spread it around your garden. How I envy you a neighbour like yours Calamity!!! My neighbours just have cats and dogs and their poo is no use at all. WELCOME to the madhouse from West Lothian in Scotland and, somehow, I have the feeling your going to love it here as much as we do.

Hi Calamity, welcome to the Stew from north Texas. Glad you decided to join and jump in. No horse poo around here either, there is lots of elephant poo available for the taking every August when the circus comes to town. Horse-poo envy....there are worse things I guess :-D
Thanks for the warm welcome. Yeah - the horse barn next door is really a great help for a new garden. All I need now is a few days of warm weather and I'll be shoveling the stuff like crazy. Regards.
