This is how my front yard looks today after mountains of snow melted overnight. Yesterday this was all white with snow.
Oh my Netty, how long will it take that to run off? I guess I just never thought about what happens when all that snow melts.
Netty that is much larger than my back yard lake which is slowly draining away. It's amazing how much water there is in a snow pile when it melts.
OMG Netty that looks horrendous!! I hope you don't get any more snow - or worse rain - so that your garden can dry out. Neither wonder you're wishing for spring to arrive.
I hope it dries out soon Netty. I suppose you can only look on the bright side of this i.e. the snow will be gone leaving you to be able to do things.
Depending on the weather, the lawn should drain quickly. A lot of that water drained overnight, but I won't be able to walk there for quite a while. I have one garden at the end of the driveway that is high and dry but I would have to wade through the rapids to get to it! There are flurries in the forcast this weekend.
Thanks Zuzu, but I don't think that will be necessary! LOL The water level has dropped almost 3 feet this morning. The cold overnight temperatures have frozen the top, but the water is still flowing underneath the ice. We will be getting more snow this evening and overnight, although I'm not sure how much. Hopefully it will just be a dusting. I've had quite enough of winter!
I can not imagine having so much water in your front yard that the level can drop by 3 feet and still have more to go. Forget the floaty or hipboots, you need scuba equipment. Goodness and more snow coming. Hope you get to enjoy dry spring weather soon.
Holy cow - talk about a mudbath! Glad to hear it is draining... does it do this every year, or was this unusual?
Oh Dear, I spent 17 years in Watertown, NY and I know what you are dealing with! Good luck with early digging......mucking....wading...wishing.
Yes Primsong, it does this every year. We usually get some water there in the fall which makes for a great skating rink in the winter. When spring thaw starts the water gets quite high before the runoff breaks thru the snow in the ditches. The good thing is that this part of the lawn isn't really used for much yet, so I would rather the water go there than sit around the house or end up in my basement! Funny thing is, once it dries up and the warmer weather hits, this is the best grass in the yard...so green and weed free!
