:smt114 Do you celebrate the winter solistice? the shortest day celebration is generally regarded as having been hijacked by the Christian faith as christmas day The prechristians always celebrated the end of the year and the coming off the new one .How did these pagans know when this was? Well they were a lot more clever than people give them credit for . Here in Ireland we have perhaps the oldest fully functional clock in the world . Every 21st dec the sun shines down a long passage into the inner chamber . It truly is a humbling experiance. Built 5000 years ago by neolithic farmers it still works today 8) check out the site www.knowth.com I was lucky enough to visit it years ago and always bring visitors to it. See ya, Bugs

    winter solstice

:D Todays the day,i.e. the winter solstice. Ive just been looking at the rising sun flooding into the chamber at Newgrange (on the tv ). Amazing sight . This structure predates the pyramids and still works perfectly. Nowadays its invited guests only. Anything like this where you are? Bugs

I missed Newgrange on TV but I have seen clips of it numerous times before. It must be amazing to see it. Oh well maybe someday. Have you been there just to visit it and not for the winter solistice?

    winter solstice

    8) About 30 years ago I used to take cheap excursions around the country with C.I E. ( our national bus company) and visited Newgrange. There was a 10 year waiting list then to visit on the 21st dec as the inner chamber i.e tomb holds only a small amount of people. Just for a laugh I put my name down . Lo and behold I got the call, 10 years later but only for the 22nd Dec . ( the sun shines in for a few mornings) Great experiance :D especially because the previous morning was wet, dark with very little sunshine. Whereas we got good sun  Now they have a simulator and you get the effect whenever you visit ,which I cant recommend enough . Bugs
